Did You Know...

... that SCSL team Phoenix Pheathers have plans for the USPA Nationals 2023?

SCSL 2014 - 2022: Josh Hall with Airspeed
posted Jul 14th, 2023 - The Southern California Skydiving League (SCSL) made it through the last three years of the coronoa virus crisis without a total interruption. Josh Hall, Arizona Airspeed 4-way world champion of 2012, had been running the 4-way league since 2014, and he was in charge of the meets during the pandemic period.

The Southern California Skydiving League survived the challenging times and has become the only league in the NSL Network that has offered the regional 4-way meet opportunities since 2007 without missing a year. In fact, these events were taking place even a few years earlier, before the Southwest Skydiving League split up into the Northern, the Southern, and the Arizona Skydiving Leagues.

The Southwest Skydiving League was launched even earlier (2000), as the NSL News reported on February 8th. The article was a part of the storyline that introduced the new league director of the Southern California Skydiving League, Christy Frikken. The NSL News had broken the news a few days earlier on February 5th.

Josh Hall and Christy Frikken were original team mates of Perris Fury and made it both to the world's top level in 4-way competition, Josh Hall eventually with Airspeed in 2012, Christy Frikken with SDC Rhythm XP at the FAI Tanay Mondial in August 2021.

The first competition of the SCSL 2023 season was hosted by Skydive Elsinore, where Mary SantAngelo has been helping Josh Hall in the past years to host the SCSL meets in Elsinore. She and Christy Frikken are now working together to continue the SCSL 4-way activities.

Mary SantAngelo has also participated regularly as a 4-way competitor in the past years. Last weekend in Elsinore, she was in the Meaningful Friendship lineup that separated the two Czech teams on the AAA Class leaderboard.

Christy Frikken and Mary SantAngelo are not only working together in running the Southern California Skydiving League. They were actually team mates with Frikken's Slot Lizard (Alicia Powers, Allyson Reel) at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2023, as well. Frikken's Slot Lizard ended up in 4th place on the 4-way AAA/Advanced Class leaderboard, one single point Last Minuet.

The teams of the Southern California Skydiving League had the two other leaderboards last weekend for themselves, and the A Class had the best attendance with three teams. The SCSL has a successful history in this new category.

Perris Chutists at the SCSL June meet in 2021
Perris Chutists had attended two meets of the Southern California Skydiving League in June and September 2021, before they visited Skydive Arizona in October for the USPA Nationals. Only the weak Round 3 and missing Round 6 completely kept the SCSL team from being in medal contention.

Mary SantAngelo told the NSL News that there is a new A Class team from Elsinore who plan to travel to Paraclete XP and compete at this year's national outdoor championship in September. Phoenix Pheathers have to be ready for ten rounds in the A Class this year.

USPA launched the new category with six rounds in 2021 and followed up in 2022 with the same number of competition rounds. USPA have now approved the category and the usage of the complete dive pool for a 10-round competition.

As Perris Chutists in 2021, Phoenix Pheathers have a second SCSL meet to collect more competition experience. The August competition will be hosted by Skydive Perris.
