Did You Know...

... that NMP PCH HayaBusa's Dennis Praet himself was surprised by his team?

NMP PCH HayaBusa's current outdoor lineup
posted Feb 3rd, 2025 - The leaderboard of the Wind Games 2025 was speaking its own language to a certain extent. Aethers Medjay on the very top did not require much explanation, even though the 33-point lead after Round 10 was probably more than expected in the formation skydiving competition community.

National coach Mathieu Bernier knew that his team had the head-start into the 2025 season, compared to other potential contenders for the world's 4-way top position, with the exception of the Golden Knights, who starting training and competing together with the same lineup in July 2023. He is expecting the same outcome at the indoor world championship in April.

Mathieu Bernier sees the most challenging part of his work with the team in the transition to outdoor competition after the indoor world meet. The French goal is probably somewhere on the scoring level that the previous Arizona Airspeed lineup were showing at their last competition, the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships at Crystal Coast. He would be happy with an increased outdoor average up to 1.5 points this year. Aethers Medjay had a similar walk in the park in Spain as Arizona Airspeed had it at the major events between 2022 and 2024. Mathieu Bernier is a true competitor and loves a good 4-way battlefield. However, he may have to slow down the progression of his team to offer other teams an opportunity to catch up and generate a 4-way thriller. Until then, Aethers Medjay will be the same top favorite at each meet in the coming two years.

NMP PCH HayaBusa - Tunnel Vision at the Wind Games 2025
Last training week before Wind Games in Brussels
There were still more than enough tight battles at the Wind Games. NMP PCH HayaBusa and Niklas Hemlin's new indoor team, Tunnel Vision, were not the only teams who were tied after Round 10. Qatar Lions and Spain's Papea were tied after Round 10, as well. They did not have to perform an additional tie-breaking round, which is only the case in the medal rankings.

Lions and Papea will both compete for their countries at the indoor world championship at Paraclete XP. They have ten new rounds before they will finally be separated on the next international leaderboard. Windabona Angels (Spain) and Airdrops (Switzerland) were tied after Round 10, as well, with Oblivion from France only one point behind. Airdrops are planning to compete in 4-way Women at Paraclete XP.

The exciting 11-round battle between NMP PCH HayaBusa and Tunnel Vision was the highlight of the Wind Games 2025, together with the impressive performance by the French national team. It was the very first competition for Tunnel Vision, even though the lineup was promising world class 4-way performance. The Belgians have prepared their new lineup quietly and carefully, even though the NSL News tried to remain up-to-date on the progression. Team captain Dennis Praet had hardly arrived at home, coming from Spain, when he agreed to discuss the exciting competition for the 2nd place.

Dennis Praet explained that he did not even know himself that his team would put all the pieces together at the right time, which was the last week of training before the Wind Games. He was surprised and happy to see that his and his team mates' work was finally showing results with numbers on the leaderboard.

New and very young team member Ray Lodens had only attended three 4-way competitions with NMP PCH HayaBusa since he was recruited for the team, the ISR Grand Prix2023, the BENELUX Championship 2024 and the 26th FAI World Formation Skydiving Championships, where HayaBusa finished in 4th place with a 21.2 average.

Three months later, Ray Lodens was ready to keep up with Tunnel Vision and Golden Knights and performed on the 30+ indoor level. Dennis Praet said that he was impressed how his team was showing the best when the pressure came to the peak level. He and his long-time team mate Jeroen "Bob" Nollet were used to battle with Arizona Airspeed on the highest level regularly. Neal Willems and Ray Lodens were new to this kind of competition pressure when they joined the team. The new NMP PCH HayaBusa lineup also had to defeat the Golden Knights in the first ten rounds to win the 2nd place at the Wind Games. However, the pressure was at the highest level when all attention of the whole competition was on the duel in the extra round. It seems like NMP PCH HayaBusa is ready for any challenge, as they mastered the extra round just as well as the previous ten rounds.
