Did You Know...

... that NMP PCH HayaBusa now switch to indoor training and competition?

CISM World Championship awards in Doha, Qatar
posted Nov 28th, 2025 - The NSL News published the leaderboard of the CISM World Championship after Round 2 on November 17th. A follow-up story on November 19th included NSL Live Talk with NMP PCH HayaBusa members Dennis Praet and Neal Willems. Two additional rounds were completed, and the updated scores were featured again on November 24th.

Round 5 ultimately became the final 4-way round of the competition, as windy weather kept teams grounded for most of the meet. During new NSL Live Talk on Friday, Dennis Praet noted that some teams had also started Round 6, but it could not be finished. As a result, the scores from the first five rounds formed the final leaderboard—and NMP PCH HayaBusa secured their 17th consecutive CISM 4-way world championship title for Belgium.

Spain’s Papea 4-way team was likely hoping for a significant change in weather conditions. Their situation was also part of the discussion with Dennis Praet, following his evaluation of HayaBusa’s performance. Two more highscores in Rounds 4 and 5 extended Belgium’s lead over Germany in second place to 31 points, which may be the largest winning margin in CISM history. Dennis Praet said he was pleased to have the additional rounds, which are now available on NSL-TV. Having returned home to Belgium, he confirmed that HayaBusa’s indoor training for the winter season will begin soon. In fact, Neal Willems and Ray Lodens will already be in action this Saturday at the ISR Grand Prix 2025 in Roosendaal, though the complete NMP PCH HayaBusa lineup will not compete.

NMP PCH HayaBusa at the CISM World Championship 2025

Dennis Praet’s evaluation of the CISM meet also highlighted the importance of the team videographer’s skill and experience. He offered a clear example of how heavily camera-angle issues can affect results. The first NSL Live Talk with Dennis Praet and Neal Willems had touched on the same topic. Videographer David Grauwels drew attention for changing his exit strategy—from the traditional rear-floater “leading” view to the “peeling” technique. Praet explained that the slow exit speed of the military Twin Otters made it difficult for the videographer to find stable air. Grauwels recognized this before Round 1 and adjusted accordingly.

Papea did not have a four-time world champion behind the camera, and the Spanish team learned some hard lessons in the first two rounds before their videographer, Isaac Fernandez Garcia, made his own adjustments. After that, Papea began to recover, posting the highest scores among the teams battling for the medal positions behind Belgium in the next three rounds. Three more completed rounds might have allowed them to climb back onto the CISM podium—but with the competition ending early, Papea had to settle for fourth place.

Praet also reviewed the Weembinamic 2025, which uses a different competition format. CISM events feature a unique dive pool and a fixed sequence of eight rounds in a set order of blocks and randoms to generate scores for a traditional leaderboard. Weembinamic, however, uses the FAI/ISC dive pool but applies an entirely different scoring and ranking system. In both the 4-way and 8-way events, the teams leading the traditional leaderboard did not win the Weembinamic. Praet explained more of the details during the NSL Live Talk conversation.
