Did You Know...

... that Evolution has documented the 4-way family career on a new DVD?

Evolution at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008
posted Apr 17th, 2008 - The story of the Canadian national 4-way team Evolution has been covered by the NSL News several times in the past. It is one of the most amazing stories in the history of Formation Skydiving competition, and it is far from being over.

Father Michel LeMay (Center Inside) and his three sons Martin (Center Outside - 22), Vincent (Tail - 19) and Benoit (Point - 17) have started their second year as a complete family team. Michel LeMay's teammate in the late 70's and early 80's, the time when Canada was on top of the world in 4-way and 8-way, Daniel Paquette, is filming the team.

Evolution has already become one of the best teams in the world, as the last team performance at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008 clearly shows. The 22.0 average in March in DeLand speaks its own language.

The Canadian team is ready to attend its third meet of the 2008 season this weekend in DeLand after competing at the Valentine's Meet in February and the Shamrock Showdown in March. The Norwegian national team Arcteryx will offer the tough competition that Evolution is looking for.

Coach Shannon Pilcher, reigning 4-way world champion of 2006 with DeLand Fire and PD Factory Team Canopy Pilot, is impressed with the team's progression and does not even see a medal position this year in France as impossible any longer. He is working with the team on an hourly basis whenever he is in DeLand.

The amazing family story is now documented on a DVD, which has just been added to the NSL Shop inventory. Local freefall videographer and moviemaker Edson Pecheco has put together the DVD, which is informative, entertaining and educating at the same time.

It begins with the introduction of the team members and a team profile. This part of the DVD can already be viewed on NSL-TV by clicking here. The introduction of the LeMay family is so unique that it provides an idea of how father Michel LeMay must feel about his family 4-way.

Team Evolution - one family - one team - one dream

Benoit LeMay:

"Hi, my name is Benoit LeMay. I am 16 years old and I have 400 jumps of which 200 are with team Evolution. Team Evolution is my family and we are a formation skydiving team. We won the Canadian National Championships. My goal with the team is to become world champion."

Martin LeMay:

"I love skydiving because it gives me an adrenaline rush that I did not find elsewhere in other sports. Our goal for the next year is to be in world's top five teams. And my long term goal is to become a world skydiving champion."

Vincent LeMay:

"Hi, my name is Vincent LeMay. I am 19 years old and I have just over 2000 jumps and more than 110 hours of wind tunnel time. I started training in the wind tunnel at age 12, along with my younger brother Benoit. World champion Craig Girard was our coach. I have been on this team since 2004 and competed in the 2006 world championships in Germany. We finished in 9th place. My skydiving goals for this year with my family team are to have a very good performance to do 10 solid jumps and finish in the top five. Eventually, I would like to become a world champion."

Michel LeMay:

"Now team Evolution is comprised of the entire family. The past summer we competed at our first national championships together and won the gold medal. This gave us the opportunity to represent our country at the next world championships this summer in France."

The three sons obviously leave no doubt about their goals in the future, they want to become 4-way world champions. Father Michel LeMay seems to be a little more careful with such a strong statement. None of the LeMays plans to win the world's gold medals already this year. However, the potential to reach the goal later is there, and they surely plan to be very competitive already in France in August.

The DVD's content covers the very beginnings of the team and the progression to the current world-class level. Summaries of the 2005 and 2006 seasons lead into the 2007 season where Evolution qualified for the World Meet 2008 by winning the Canadian Nationals 2007.

The best TV coverage that has featured the LeMay family so far was on "Tribal", a Canadian show that focuses on extreme sports. A copy of this interesting TV show follows next on the DVD.

Evolution with coach Shannon Pilcher
The competition jumps at the two meets of the 2008 season, Valentine's Meet and Shamrock Showdown, are next and easy to find on the menu, followed by a series of "best of jumps".

The technical part of the DVD includes the techniques of the 22 blocks of the current dive pool, in real speed and slow motion. An interesting aspect on this part of the DVD is the fact that a lot of the technical input is based on Shannon Pilcher's coaching style and offers a different view, compared to other technical DVD's on the market.

The menu offers very easy navigation and allows the user to get quickly to each part of the DVD. This is a very colorful and interesting documentation of a unique team in the history of Formation Skydiving competition - a father and his three sons pursuing the top position in the world.
