Did You Know...

... that the first round of FSL-TV is now available?

Sebastian Tempest
posted May 27th, 2008 - The completion of last weekend's leaderboard with a total of 30 teams came along with the first meet videos of the previous weekend of May 17. A total of 37 teams competed by then, including eight teams of the Florida Skydiving League at Skydive Sebastian.

AAA Class team Sebastian Tempest was already introduced by the NSL News on 28 January 2008, and a few brief updates followed here and there. The FSL May meet was the first time that the new team competed on its home turf.

The 15.3 average after the six rounds in Sebastian is lower than the 16.9 average at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008. However, the pure Tempest numbers make more sense compared with another team's results in the same situation.

Teiwaz May lineup
The UK team Satori competed at the same two events. Tempest and Satori competed directly with each other in March in DeLand (16.9 - 18.9) and at two different locations on May 17. Satori completed only four rounds in the United Kingdom, while Sebastian Tempest completed all six rounds.

Satori had a 17.5 average after these four rounds, Tempest a 16.5 average after the same four rounds. It was obviously a significantly slower competition draw on May 17, and both teams could not repeat the Shamrock scoring level. Sebastian Tempest's Round 1 is now available on NSL-TV.

Teiwaz was still ahead of Sebastian Tempest (17.8 - 16.9) at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008. However, the Teiwaz lineup in Sebastian consisted of four different players who did not even consider a serious competition with Tempest this time. In fact, the Teiwaz May lineup celebrated mainly a reunion of former team mates.

Tim Taylor and Bob Schindler with Tonic
Bob Schindler and Tim Taylor trained and competed together in 1999 and won the USPA gold medals of the Intermediate Class at Skydive Sebastian nine years ago with an 11.8 average. The same Tonic lineup moved up into the AAA/Advanced Class in 2000 and posted an 11.2 average at the USPA Nationals.

Tonic staid together for another year, competed in Florida and disbanded at the end of the 2001 season.

Bob Byrne came into the picture shortly after the end of Team Tonic. Tim Taylor, Bob Byrne, Kris Byrne and Russ Snyder formed DeLand TBD and posted an 11.8 average in the AAA/Advanced Class of the USPA Nationals 2002. Tim Taylor and Bob Byrne continued together with Michael Biederman and Doug Atherton in 2003 (11.5 at the USPA Nationals).

Bob Schindler and Tim Taylor have continued on a more recreational level ever since, while the younger Bob Byrne picked up the pace from here on. He ended up in the Teiwaz lineups of the past years where Tim Taylor had his one and only appearance at the FSL July meet in 2005 (9.7 average).

Derek Thomas, Sun Path founder and British national 8-way competitor of 2006, joined the Tonic/TBD/Teiwaz reunion on May 17 in Sebastian and shared the 4-way fun with Bob Schindler, Tim Taylor and Bob Byrne. Rob Herrick was on camera for Teiwaz and for ZT Mal4mations, as well.
