Did You Know...

... that three FSL A Class teams were tied after two rounds?

Airplay Round 1 presentation
posted Jun 4th, 2008 - The next round of NSL-TV has been uploaded. This time, it features the three A Class teams at the May Meet of the Florida Skydiving League.

It was quite a start for Airplay and the two lineups from Skydive Miami, Zero Tolerance and ZT Mal4mations. It was already a very close race in the first round where all three teams posted 2-digit scores and the new all-female Airplay lineup took a 1-point lead. Attentive NSL-TV viewers probably noticed the special way how Airplay presented the team's first round of the meet to the judges and the audience.

Carol Bufalino (Outside Center), Davina Butler (Inside Center), Rebecca Minkin (Point), Victoria Smith (Tail) and Rob Stevenson on camera may have been surprised by their own great performance in Round 1 and the lead and looked a little bit nervous in Round 2.

Result after a few point deductions for Airplay in Round 2 was that both teams from Homestead caught up, and all three A Class teams were now tied in 1st place.

Rob Stevenson used to be Sebastian XL's videographer when the team went after medals at the international meets, for the last time at the Mondial 2003 in Gap, France. He prepared the new 4-way competitors of Airplay with his 4-way knowledge and experiences for their first competition in Sebastian.

Only Center Outside Carol Bufalino was already a 4-way competitor before the FSL 2008 May Meet, in fact a very successful competitor. She trained and competed with Windline Lightning in 2003 and won the AA/Intermediate Class gold medal at the USPA Nationals 2003 on home turf in Lake Wales with a 12.4 average in a 37-team field.

Windline Lightning and Carol Bufalino did not continue with team training and competition after the perfect 2003 season. The training with Airplay and last weekend's meet in Sebastian was a comeback for her. However, the team members don't know yet whether they will move on from here with this lineup. Time and resources are limited, and only time will tell. Airplay had a great time, however, and showed great skills.

Zero Tolerance Miami, with Trevor Cedar (Point), Alexandra Kolb (Tail), Pam Manos (Center Outside, Guido Marti (Center Inside) and Luis Alvarez on camera, attended already the team's third meet this year, and the results (7.1 - 6.6 - 9.3) show great progression.

Pam Manos and Guido Marti in the center have been guiding the two newcomers in the Point and Tail slots into the world of 4-way competition that opened up for them at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008 this year. Zero Tolerance Miami eventually pulled away from the other two A Class teams, won the meet in Sebastian and carefully approaches the 10-point average benchmark level.

Invasion from Miami in Sebastian
The 9.3 average won the 3rd place on the overall A Class leaderboard of seven teams that weekend, six points behind UK team Strangers after four rounds (11.3) and only three points behind Mile High Mayhem after six rounds. The Miami team seems to have the potential to give the Colorado team a run for the top spot in the A Class this year.

Zero Tolerance Miami brought its own competition from South Florida to Sebastian this time. ZT Mal4mations had a 2008 comeback after a very busy 2007 season (5.0 - 5.8 - 4.2 - 5.7 - 5.7 - 5.8 - 7.7 - 4.7) with eight meets. Gary Hansen (Center Inside), Ana Sang (Tail) and Shiva Krovi (Point) started the 2008 season with a new personal best of 7.8 after six rounds.

The new Center Outside, Gyorgy Koncz originally from Hungary, helped the team with his great skills and solid work in the center position. ZT Mal4mations posted a new team record average, had highscores in three rounds and still ended up only in 3rd place. It was a tight A Class competition in Sebastian.
