Did You Know...

... that Sebastian Tempest members observed Airspeed Odyssey's team action in Raeford?

posted Jul 18th, 2008 - The videos of Round 10 of the Paraclete XP Money Meet 2008 have now been uploaded. Airspeed Odyssey once again showed their extraordinary competitive skills after the unfortunate Round 9. Andy Delk (Center Inside), Craig Girard (Center Outside), Mark Kirkby (Tail), Eliana Rodriguez (Point) and Steve Novak (Camera) came back with the highscore for Round 10 as an impressive final statement.

Competitors of a new 4-way generation were observing the competition in Raeford very carefully, both the indoor and the outdoor action.

Sebastian Tempest competed only at the tunnel meet that weekend, and the members were eager to check out how the top teams manage their meets. The NSL News asked the Tempest members for their feedback.

Kris Peterson: "Craig Girard discusses on the Airspeed DVD that it's not necessary to win each round of a meet in order to win. He emphasizes the importance of consistency. During the skydiving portion of the Raeford meet, Airspeed did not win every round on Sunday, but because of their lead after Saturday, they were able to win the meet with their consistency.

It's always impressive how even with a 6-point lead going into Round 10, Airspeed performed with the same intensity displayed throughout the meet to win the meet by nine points. This ability is one of the hallmarks of the team."

Chris Ash: "My experience at the Paraclete XP Meet was quite interesting. I've never attended a tunnel meet before, and being able to watch top teams compete from a close view was pretty intense. The first things that stood out were how much 4-way can be a contact sport.

Watching Fury perform the 57-point round revealed a lot to me. There were more collisions and rougher parts than I expected. It looks very different from the judges perspective. Airspeed looked much smoother and more fluid with their motion. The Airspeed preparations for each jump were also very different. They spend much more time with mental preparations than anybody else."

Thiago Muradas: "I only had the chance to watch the top teams performing at the tunnel meet, and like pretty much all my teammates mentioned, it was really intense to watch closely what goes on from the level perspective. I mean, there are a lot of things happening that a top camera will never be able to capture. Regarding Airspeed in particular, one thing that stood out for me was to see live their ability to quickly come back to the top of the scoreboard when the time calls. Up to Round 5 they were behind the Knights and Fury, and at some stage I noticed they had a quick team meeting away from the crowd. At the end of Saturday's rounds they were on the top of the scoreboard again. It seemed like they had worked out a different strategy."

Ari Perelman: "Airspeed - good..."

Sebastian Tempest competes this weekend at the July meet of the Florida Skydiving League at Skydive Miami in Homestead. Tempest has completed approx. 210 training jumps and 19 hours of windtunnel time since the team was formed at the end of the 2007 season.
