Did You Know...

... that the Chicas fended off the Incognito challenge?

posted Jul 27th, 2008 - The second day at the Nuggets Cup was a short one, and not much changed in the standings any more. Fog was in the way of an early start on Sunday, and the weather situation never allowed a smooth operation of the meet. Finally, Round 5 was completed for all 4-way teams before the meet was called and the award ceremony began at 2:00 pm.

The EADS 8-way team was able to complete seven rounds in its one and only test before the World Meet 2008 where the Germans will try to go for the bronze medals, which might be up for grabs since Russia has not registered an 8-way lineup.

FSC Eisenach wins the AAA Class competition
The German national 4-way team FSC Eisenach extended the lead over the Swiss team Viva in Round 5 with a 20-pointer and clearly gained even more respect from all other German 4-way teams. The 20.4 average after five rounds is the highest meet average for the team and in German 4-way history.

Another record fell already earlier when Chicas, the German national 4-way team in the female category, and the young girls of Incognito both scored 23-pointers in Round 1. The Chicas confirmed that this was the highest score for a single round in the team's history, which is pretty much identical with the German history in female 4-way Formation Skydiving competition.

The Chicas at the award ceremony
The Chicas ended up with a 16.2 average, which is also the highest meet average in team history. The current lineup with Petra Bärenfänger, Sylvia Maier, Susa Serra and Marion Thomas has changed the style and has become more dynamic and even aggressive. It will be interesting to see how far coach Davide Moy can push the team at the World Meet in France.

The competition for the medal positions is tough. The Chicas are the defending bronze medal winners of the FAI World Cup 2007 where they scored a 13.8 average in Russia. The fun loving Chicas fended off the challenge of the dynamic new generation, Incognito (Steffi Dichmann, Sarah Hajooze, Anne Heinrich, Pia Weingart), this time.

The challengers: Incognito Leutkirch, with fan and X-Ray member Uli Sehrbrock
The new Chicas energy will make it difficult for the young Leutkirch team to catch up quickly.

The next showdown between the two all-female teams will take place after the World Meet 2008. The DFV Cup in September is the most relevant competition in Germany this year. It will be held once again on Incognito's home turf in Leutkirch.

The most exciting part on the second day of the Nuggets Cup took place in the A Class competition. The team from Germany's capitol city Berlin, PSV Fire, and Pacmen were tied in first place after four rounds. The weather situation put additional pressure on both teams.

PSV Fire wins the A Class competition
Pacmen was the first team to go up when the weather allowed a load to take off. The 7-pointer was an average performance for the team in its second year in the A Class. PSV Fire had to wait a little bit longer and then followed up with an 8-pointer, which secured the Nuggets Cup in the A Class for the team from Berlin. The 10-pointer in Round 2 was the record score for a single round and the first 2-digit result for the young team, and the 8.0 was the highest meet average.

Mike Vetter of X-Ray Remscheid is hosting and helping the A Class winner at his skydiving center "Go Jump" in Gransee near Berlin, while his X-Ray rear piece partner Peter "PG" Grossmann has guided Incognito to the team's current position as the owner of the "Nuggets Skydiving Center" in Leutkirch.
