Did You Know...

... that the DaneZ defended the 4-way championship title in Denmark?

The DaneZ and the Pink Skyvan
posted Jul 28th, 2008 - Last weekend's leaderboard begins to become more colorful with more numbers added to the German scores from one meet in Leutkirch and the other one in Kassel. It is actually also worthwhile checking the previous scoreboard, which features the results of the Swedish Nationals 2008. The NSL News will go back to this event later.

The national championship of Denmark was a part of the previous weekend's leaderboard, while the Swedish Nationals were held on the following week days. The Danish National 2008 featured the teams of the Danish 4-way project, Danish Blaze and Sequence, plus once again the former national team, the DaneZ.

Danish Blaze had to accept that the DaneZ, with Jess Römer, Jesper Rasmussen, Peter Andersen, Mikael Toft and Lars Rönne on camera, stole the national 4-way title once again. However, it was still an important and probably motivating event for the Danish national 4-way team.

Kasper Brand-Svanekier (Center Outside), Brian Gregersen (Center Inside), Allan Stejlborg (Point), Torben Tidemand (Tail), with John Pedersen on camera, attended the team's 7th competition this year, including two tunnel competitions. The results at the national championship this month turned out to be the team's highest meet average in 2008.

Finally, the hard-working team sees progression at the right time, as the outdoor scores of the 2008 season (13.9 - 12.7 - 12.7 - 13.2 - 14.8) show. The results at the national championship could give Danish Blaze much needed additional motivation and energy for the World Meet 2008, which is now only two weeks away.

Danish B-Team Sequence
Denmark's official national 4-way team has also moved much closer to the old and new Danish 4-way champions, the DaneZ. Blaze had ended up 20 points behind the DaneZ at last year's championship (157 - 137). The DaneZ posted almost exactly the same meet average (15.6) this year, but Blaze was only eight points behind (14.8) after ten rounds.

The distance between the Danish A-Team (Danish Blaze) and the B-Team (Sequence) at this year's championship (14.8 - 12.6) is almost identical with the results in 2007 (137 - 117). It seemed for a while this year as if Sequence was closing in on the national team. Blaze picked up the pace at the right time.

The competition site was located at the northwest coast of Denmark, near the North Sea. DaneZ member Mikael Toft said that the meet was bothered by bad weather. However, the ten rounds were completed due to the lift capacity of the Skyvan: "We managed to finish all ten rounds after all, the weather was not working with us. But, fortunately, we had the Pink Skyvan, a very effective jump plane."

He had positive and encouraging comments and credit for Denmark's project teams: "All projekt teams had a good meet and showed some great potential and talent for the future."

His own team, the DaneZ, had a serious exit funnel in Round 3 when the Monopod of Block 4 did not come off the Skyvan's ramp as it was planned. The DaneZ made only four outdoor training jumps since the Danish Nationals 2007 and trained only in the windtunnel, which explains the exit trouble. Mikael Toft and his team took it easily: "Things like this happen and only make the competition more fun..."
