The 4-way Open Class competition seemed to turn into a more interesting situation when Hayabusa Defence won a point over Airspeed Odyssey in Round 2. However, the Belgian team had the highscore of the round only after Airspeed lost two points by penalties. The US team completed 34 points in time and ended up with 32 on the scoreboard.
Airspeed set everything completely straight again in Round 3. The 25-pointer was once again from a different league. Airspeed completed Block 6 on the 4th page and the Diamond at the beginning of the 5th page in time, while all other teams did not even get close to the 5th page. It is even difficult to imagine that any team could seriously challenge the Arizona team at this point in time.
The NSL News coverage of the FAI World Meet 2008 is brought to you with the help of: |
It is not always work that keeps Airspeed busy. They prepare the jump very carefully and with all details at the very beginning. The team members explained more details of the preparations in the interview. It is a lot of work first, then there are shorter sessions on a regular basis.
However, the team sticks together most of the time in between. It is very unusual to see a single Airspeed member during a competition - they come in a bunch... The NSL News was able to locate all team members at a time when they were not working. They were watching the Olympics together at the DZ restaurant.
The other topic of the interview was Eliana Rodriguez' pursuit of the 4-way and 8-way gold medals. No other female competitor has been a world champion in all three IPC categories in history. She has already gold medals in the female event and in 8-way. The gold medal in 4-way would complete her unique competition career. By the way: Andy Delk is the only Airspeed member who has not won a gold medal yet. He is on his way...
The interview will be uploaded as soon as the internet traffic lines allow it. Portions are already available by clicking here. Round 4 is now in full swing and will be completed soon. The 8-way teams are eager to begin with their competition.
