Did You Know...

... that Centerline XP aims at Advanced Class medals this year?

posted Aug 26th, 2008 - Some new scores have been added, which are going back in time. The Carolina Skydiving League held another indoor competition at the Paraclete XP tunnel in Raeford on the July 26 weekend and used that weekend's competition draw of the NSL Network. The scores appear on a separate leaderboard, not together with the outdoor scores of the same weekend. The NSL News has avoided mixing up indoor and outdoor scores since the conditions are much too different.

Centerline XP, a AAA Class team that trains and competes usually at the Ranch Skydiving League, joined the CASL tunnel meet and finished with a 22.0 average after six rounds. Centerline XP has another 14.0 average in July and a 12.5 average in August in the team records.

The outdoor scores seem to be further away from the indoor scores as usual, and team member Brian Smith provided the NSL News with information that explains the difference with more details of the team's situation.

Centerline XP lineup
Justin Beaudreau, Cory Beaudreau, Mark Izzo and Brian Smith, with Doreen Darsh on camera, made the Blue Sky Ranch the team's home base this year. They have tried to stay "below the radar" until it gets closer to the USPA Nationals 2008, and they were obviously quite successful with that.

Brian Smith explained that the recent scores in July and August don't really reflect the team's true skydiving capabilities. Centerline XP competed with the team's back up videographer and had to digest point deductions between two and five points on just about every jump during the meets.

The team's primary videographer has been hurt with an ankle injury for a while. He hopes to be back with the team before the USPA Nationals 2008. Centerline XP would have scored around the 15-point average level without the camera problems.

Team tunnel training at Paraclete XP
As many other teams, Centerline XP has been utilizing the windtunnel for most of the training. The team plans to complete less than 100 jumps this year.

Brian Smith said that his team will complete over 25 hours of windtunnel training. Golden Knights member Brian Krause has been working with the team at Paraclete XP in Raeford. The focus will switch to outdoor training, especially the costly exits, prior to the USPA Nationals.

Brian Smith explained why the tunnel training is so helpful for his team, as it is for many other teams: "It is cost affective. 25 hours of tunnel time is equal to about 1500 skydives, and it costs a lot less. With the rising costs of fuel this year and our home DZ (CPI) losing its contract on a turbine aircraft we couldn't lock down a good contract on cheap jumps."

USPA Advanced Class champion of 2005 from New England: Mass Defiance
Brian Smith began skydiving at the age of 16. His father Bob Smith is a long time jumper at CPI. His son joined the Army with 18 years of age and was a member of the Golden Knights for six years where he spent most of his time with the Style and Accuracy team. He competed in the CISM events and was a member of the RW team for one year in 1998.

Corey Beaudreau and Justin Beaudreau are brothers. Their father, Billy Beaudreau is also a long time jumper at CPI and the team's biggest sponsor. The brothers both started their skydiving career at the age of 16, as well. Justin and Corey Beaudreau and Brian Smith all grew up together on the drop zone.

Going for the championship: Centerline XP
Corey Beaudreau is the older brother who graduated from Embry Riddle and swept the Collegiates with four gold medals during his senior year. Justin Beaudreau is the younger brother who is in his last year of UCONN and has attended the Collegiates in the past two years.

Mark Izzo started skydiving at CPI over five years ago and has become great friends with his team mates. He is a former collegiate champion diver where he developed his great athletic ability.

Centerline XP is now in its second year of training and has aspirations to win the Advanced Class competition at this year's USPA Nationals. The secret is out now, and Centerline XP has moved above the NSL News radar...
