Winning the DFV Cup 2008 was much more difficult for FSC Eisenach than the 6-point difference now indicates.
It was actually a tough and close race round by round. Neither of the two teams was able to ever win a round by more than two points, and even a 2-point difference happened only once. Both teams were tied in first place after six rounds at the end of the first day, and the German national team had no more than a 2-point lead after nine rounds. However, Round 10 turned out to be the final statement of the defending champion.
Incognito did not have a chance any longer to win the competition going into Round 10. However, it was the last opportunity to win a round and gain additional respect. The Leutkirch home team used the opportunity well and posted a new German 4-way record for the female category with a 25-pointer.
The competition experience may have made the difference in the race of these two female lineups.
Incognito had attended only the Nuggets Cup in July (14.8) and scored lower at the DFV Cup (14.2), despite a very busy training month of August. The DFV Cup was the 5th competition this year for the Chicas with the same lineup, after several previous years of training and competing together. The Chicas finished slightly below the July scores (15.7 - 16.2), as well, on a significantly higher scoring level though.
Petra Bärenfänger, Sylvia Maier, Susa Serra and Marion Thomas, with Mark "Euro" Evert on camera, won the DFV Cup competition in the female category. However, they also ended up in 3rd place of all German AAA Class teams in Leutkirch.
Only FSC Eisenach and X-Ray Remscheid finished ahead of the best German female lineup, followed by the next female team in 4th place, Incognito. Final Four in 5th place is the overall winner of the DSL 2008 season.
