Did You Know...

... that three more teams will travel from DeLand to Bedford?

Sven Ibens with Thunder at the World Challenge 2011
posted Jan 24th, 2012 - Several teams took advantage of the £50 discount for the World Challenge 2012 registration fee after the last NSL News update of the team list for Bedford. The same offer is still open until January 31st.

The updated field of teams now includes three additional teams who will first compete at the Shamrock Showdown 2012 and then travel to the United Kingdom. The international Thunder lineup will first show at the outdoor competition in DeLand what kind of numbers some of the best amateur competitors in the world can put on the scoreboard and follow up with indoor results against other and more teams in Bedford.

Thunder member Sven Ibens will bring fresh feedback from the latest IPC Meeting in Argentina where the judging rules of Formation Skydiving competition will be discussed, as the NSL News reported on January 22nd. The first results of the poll reflect quite clearly what many teams, competitors and judges in the Formation Skydiving community have recently been asking for.

A large majority of the audience would like to see the application of slower review motion for the judging procedure. Bringing back the additional point deductions of the sport's earlier years is even a better solution than leaving everything the way it is at the moment.

Erwan Pouliquen with the French 8way team after the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk
Both teams from Dubai, Asaar Red and Asaar Gold, will also make the trip from DeLand to Bedford. Gold coach Eliana Rodriguez informed the NSL News recently that the change of the team name is related to a strong wind or storm in Arabia that sweeps the desert. Dubai seems to prepare for another sweep that the NSL News mentioned in yesterday's story...

France has once again the largest delegation of teams at the World Challenge 2012. Ten teams are registered so far, including the Rebootizer Monaco lineup with three former French 8way world champions, and the latest addition of Perros Maubeuge has French 8way coach and multiple world champion Erwan Pouliquen in the lineup, together with French 4way world champion of 1999, Thierry Boithieux.

Thierry Boithieux's 4way team mate of 1999, Marin Ferre, is now the French national 4way coach. He is also flying again in Bedford, this year with Mars Attacks. Reigning 8way world champion Martial Ferre, Marin's brother, was another team mate of both in the winning French 4way lineup of 1999.

Christy Frikken and Hannah Betts with Alpha Armada at the 2nd Dubai Championship
Another new team in the AAA Class field for the World Challenge 2012 is called Perris Wicked. The NSL News reported on 26 December 2011 that Christy Frikken and Hannah Betts were recruiting female 4way competitors for a new team project.

The first lineup is complete, and the two world class competitors are bringing Christie Blomster and Kristen Johnson to Bedford for the first competition experience as a team. The NSL News will soon follow up with more information and will meet the new team at the World Challenge 2012.

The indoor competition is still more than two months away, however, the team count is already at 35 in the four competition classes of 4way Formation Skydiving. Freeflying is also once again a part of the event. 63 teams competed in Bedford last year, and host Paul Mayer seems to be on track to beat his own numbers as he has done every year so far. The reduced registration fee is only available until January 31st.
