The NSL News mentioned earlier that the Norwegian team Polaris surprised the Golden Knights with a very strong performance, especially on the first day of the competition. Polaris was up by four points after Round 5 at the end of Friday's rounds. It even continued on Saturday morning before the Golden Knights began to catch up and won Rounds 7, 8 and 9. Two points are left of the Norwegian lead before Round 10.
It is actually not that much of a surprise looking at last year's results. Polaris outscored the Golden Knights at the World Cup 2011 by eight points (161 - 153) after ten rounds. Both teams will finish on a very similar scoring level in DeLand.
The new lineup seems to follow the steps of the world champion lineup of 2010, Deep Blue. Amelie Tirman is the only remaining member of the 2010 lineup, and she is leading the Defenders obviously in the right direction, together with coach Marin Ferre.
The distance to Norway and the US team has increased so far and at this point in time. The Defenders need a 13-pointer to maintain the 20-average level and score significantly higher than in 2011.
