Did You Know...

... that the Russian 8way competitors have earned the respect, admiration and gratitude of the Golden Knights?

Sky Panthers Barkli and Golden Knights before Round 10
posted Mar 19th, 2012 - The aftermath of the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2012 begins with a clip of NSL Reality TV that was recorded after the last round in 8way. It also includes the videos of all three teams in Round 10.

Golden Knights and Sky Panthers Barkli had made their own plans for the last round of the 8way competition and a little celebration after it. The US Army team was looking for additional performance pressure after being far ahead on the leaderboard. The Russian team was in good shape after tying the Golden Knights' 29-pointer in Round 9.

Both teams agreed that only the score in Round 10 would decide which team has to buy the beer for the celebration of Russian - American 8way history and friendship after the conclusion of the competition. The Golden Knights won, and Russia bought the beer.

Celebration of 8way friendship between Russia and USA
There was more to the celebration, as the NSL Reality TV clip shows. The Golden Knights had a very special gift for the Russian team that delegation leader Brian "BK" Krause presented to Sky Panthers Barkli after all jumps were judged and the teams met in the viewing area for beer and celebration.

The Golden Knights had a sword with a deeper meaning for the Russian team. The NSL News has recently covered the history of the Russian 8way teams, which goes far back and has connected both countries with their 8way lineups for decades in athletic competition and personal friendships.

Seven of the Sky Panthers Barkli members were 8way world champions either in 2001 and/or 2003. Team captain and 2-time world champion Oleg Shalamykhin had the honor to receive the Golden Knights sword on Sunday. His and the six other Barkli names are also on the Excalibur 8way sword that the current Golden Knights lineup still has to win for the first time. The 8way Excalibur is currently in France.

Sean Sweenet explains the meaning to Leonid Kazinets and Oleg Shalamykhin
Golden Knights team captain Sean Sweeney took the extra time after the celebration to explain the meaning of the Golden Knights sword for the NSL News audience. Oleg Shalamykhin could also learn even more how important this gift is for the US Army team.

Sean Sweeney said that each Golden Knight who makes it into the team after the tryouts is being knighted with a sword by the commander during a special ceremony. With it comes the commitment to serve according to the high standards of the US Army team. At the end of the career in the Golden Knights team, each member receives his/her own sword after living up to the standards and the commitment.

The Russian 8way teams have earned the respect, admiration and gratitude of the Golden Knights, and Sean Sweeney expressed it with the presentation of the Golden Knights sword to Sky Panthers Barkli.
