Did You Know...

... that the DeLand Norgies won $800 at the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2012?

Awards at the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2012
posted Apr 29th, 2012 - The NSL News goes back to the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2012 while the teams and competitors in South Africa finish their national championships.

There was an important part of the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship that the NSL News has mentioned only briefly during the live coverage from DeLand.

The Shamrock Showdown Skins Game brought the same excitement to all the teams as it has done in the past years. The NSL handicap system brings all AAA Class teams, including the female lineups, together on the same scoring level.

Then each team can win prize money with an outstanding performance in each of the rounds of the second half of the meet. $400 per round were on stake this year, all sponsored by Paraclete XP, as well.

The average after the first five rounds is used to define the handicap, which continues to be adjusted round by round. Round 6 was the first one where the winner after handicap collected $400 this year.

deLand Norgies at the FSL March Meet in 2001
Two teams performed on their specific top performance level two times each. Satori won Round 6 after handicap and then Round 10 to take a total of $800 back home to the United Kingdom. The DeLand Norgies did the same in Round 7 and then in Round 8. The remaining $400 of the Shamrock Showdown Skins Game 2012 went to Anima from Brazil.

The DeLand Norgies officially discontinued their competitive 4way career as Norway's national team at the end of the 2003 season after winning their third set of bronze medals at a World Championship of Formation Skydiving in a row (1999 - 2001 - 2003). They took a break for a few years before coming back to the national championships for annual reunions and without any training, or with a few jumps before the meet.

The DeLand Norgies attended their first FSL March Meet in 2001 and won the meet with a 22.2 average over the Golden Knights and Sebastian XL. The Golden Knights would move on with this 2001 lineup (John Hoover, Chris Talbert, Eric Heinsheimer, Kurt Isenbarger) to win the USPA Nationals 2002 and then the silver medals at the World Meet 2003. The Norgies placed 3rd for the last time in Gap, France, at the same World Meet.

DeLand Norgies 8way lineup in DeLand
Ten years after the Norgies' first attendance at the Shamrock Showdown 2001 they came back last year and had a great time without any pressure.

The 19.8 average was almost at the 2003 level (20.6) with hardly any training at all. It was not too difficult to make the decision to come back a year later for the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2012.

This time, the Norgies combined the Florida spring vacation with a training camp - but not in 4way. They only made a few warmup jumps in 4way before the meet and continued with family,

Norwegian friends and coach Kirk Verner with quality 8way after the completion of the competition. The 20.1 average in 4way was also very impressive, as the video shows.

The $800 for the two skins was a nice allowance for the Norgies and was probably spent right away for the 8way jumps. Chances are not too bad that the DeLand Norgies may return for the same event next year. But first there is the other annual reunion at the national championships where Polaris will try to get closer to the former national team.
