"DID YOU KNOW more about the new feature? (10 May 2000)
The first show at the NSL website is only the beginning, and a first step of a long-term plan into the future of the National Skydiving League projects. Wouldn't it be nice to get TV coverage about last weekend's meet on the Monday after the meet, or possibly Sunday night?
The show would feauture the best and winning skydives of the competition, interviews with teams and competitors, scores and the newest rankings. There is already more than enough footage, with over 65 NSL events scheduled over the whole season. Unfortunately, this will not happen at any time soon; however, the future is in sight.
Skydiving competition would no longer depend on the mercy, interest and financial demands of the major networks. The National Skydiving League will create its own TV channel on-line. Beer and chips taste just as fine in front of the computer screen as in front of the TV. And very soon, the internet connection will lead right into the living room anyway.
Currently, the only barrier on the way to consistent NSL-TV programming is the technical standards. The connections, transmission, and download times are just not good enough yet. However, it will not take long until this is improved everywhere across the country and the world.
Then the major TV networks will face major challenges. The NSL headquarters is probably not the only sports property considering different options for the future. For now, the NSL-TV will make an effort to present a new show each week. Teams and competitors are encouraged to provide interesting and related footage to the NSL headquarters."
The first multi meet weekend is coming up, and new information and footage will hopefully be available as soon as possible. It is also just pure coincidence that next day's story in May 2000 (11th) was a preview of the first meet of the Carolina Skydiving League's 2000 season. The first meet of the CASL 2012 season is coming up this weekend in Raeford. Here is what the NSL News reported about the CASL season opener 12 years ago.
"DID YOU KNOW these new CASL teams? (11 May 2000) Getting closer to the start of the season in the Carolina area, Carolina Skydiving League director Adam Wheeler has begun introducing the teams which will be competing this season. Wheeler has set up a page at the CSL homesite where team pictures and profiles can be looked up. "U4ia" is consisting of league director Adam Wheeler himself, Pete Langehans, Erin Engle and John Neely. Home drop zone is Blue Sky Adventures in St. George, SC. The team is hoping to make 250 training jumps this year and compete in all of the Carolina Skydiving League meets. The U4ia team members average roughly 1000 jumps but are all new to the competition circuit. They want to learn a lot and grow as a team and as team members. U4ia is currently looking for a camera person for the 2000 season. The candidate may be of lower experience. The team is willing to train the team videographer while they are training. Team contact is Adam Wheeler at skydivin@usa.net. |
Team XCeed Xcell is consisting of Rob Belknap, Scott Weed, Laurie Hermann and Joe Funderburke. Xceed Xcell is Blue Sky Adventures' newest team to start training. The team is hoping to compete in all four of the Carolina Skydiving League meets. The team's members average about 300 jumps and are all new to the competition circuit. They have enlisted the help of veteran competitor Wally West for coaching and hope to learn as much as they can this season. Team captain Rob Belknap says their biggest goal this season is to score higher than rival team "U4ia" at CSL meet one. The season opener of the inaugural season is scheduled for May 27-28 at both teams' home turf, Blue Sky Adventures. Three other hosts (Carolina Sky Sports, Raeford Parachute Center and Skydive Carolina) are also hosting meets this season. More information can be found at the league's homepage." |
