NWSL Director Deb Correia mentioned earlier this year that she is working closely together with the iFLY Seattle windtunnel to prepare the NWSL teams and competitors for the 2012 outdoor and NWSL comeback season.
Perris Wicked player coach Hannah Betts now reported that she recently attended one of the indoor activities where she was coaching future NWSL teams and competitors at a 3way and 4way indoor meet at iFLY Seattle: "iFLY Seattle held its first IBA 4way and 3way scrambles meet on the 22nd and 23rd May and it was a great success. Teams and individuals from local DZs and further away gathered for the event, which also included several freely disciplines. It was a 2-day competition which ran smoothly and had fun filled vibes."
"A fun battle ensued in the intermediate class which resulted in 3DIC taking gold with an impressive 17.4 average. An impromptu tunnel rat team (no grippers required) called Hodge Podge took silver with a 13-point average, which, considering they didn't have any idea what a block was until Round 1, was quite an achievement."
Hannah Betts said that "a little last minute coaching from the judge helped the tunnel instructors"... Team Leftover won the bronze medals with a 12.1 average.
"The participants were a mixture of brand new Formation Skydiving jumpers combined with experienced flyers who kept all the teams fair and safe and gave the newer jumpers a solid platform to experience how much fun these meets can be. The six rounds had 75 seconds of flying time, and the last round was a fun relay round where competitors had to fly to different sections of the tunnel and touch numbers numerically as many times as possible."
Allan Christoffersen, Larry Yount and Michael Simpson came in third with a 28.8 average. Beth Athanas, Helen Ursachii and Jeena Lee took the 2nd place with a 32-point average and a 50-pointer in Round 4. The winners were Cole Fehr, Francisco Ruiz-Velasco and Sean Smallwood by a single point and with a 32.2 average. Hannah Betts said that iFLY Seattle plans to continue hosting competitions and events.
