Did You Know...

... that Z-Hills Commandos was a real family affair last weekend?

DeLand Higgs Boson at iFLY Orlando's FSL June Kicker
posted Jun 12th, 2012 - Chances were little that last weekend's leaderboard would grow much after the scores from the United Kingdom were posted. The NSL News reported earlier that the weather situation in Florida was not very promising.

A few teams that had made plans to attend did not even try to possibly beat the weather with a few rounds. However, five teams were eager enough to brave the weather situation, and DeLand Higgs Boson even managed to complete six rounds on Sunday when the weather at Skydive City was better than on Saturday.

Higgs Boson was not originally scheduled to compete last weekend, but a recent schedule change made it possible. However, Center Inside Drew Zastrow was filling a slot for Z-Hills Commandos, and Higgs Boson still had to find a substitute player for the meet. That happened at the FSL Tunnel Kicker at iFLY Orlando last Tuesday when Zunday's Tail Keith Murray offered to fill the slot. An exit collision with the team's videographer in Round 2 caused a low Higgs Boson score.

The cloudy weather surely had an impact on the meet on Saturday, but the Skydive City staff worked hard to get some rounds completed.

A Class team Zunday changed three of the team's exit slots at the May meet, based on recommendations by meet coach Bob Byrne. The slot changes, combined with the recent Tunnel Kicker coaching by Ben Liston at the last Tunnel Kicker, plus technical and engineering support during the meet helped the Zunday performance significantly.

The Zero in Round 2 was the result of a camera malfunction, and the Zunday average will most likely shoot up very soon with a completely clean meet.

Z-Hills Commandos front piece: Yvette and Keith Walter
The SOCOM Commandos had another different lineup at the team's third meet, and the Tail flyers changed even during the competition. The Rookie Class team also created two new 4way random formations, one each day, as meet coach Bob Byrne reported: "On Saturday, they invented the Keefaccord, where the Point sidebodies the Center Outside, instead of the standard Compressed Accordeon of the Cataccord. On Sunday, they created the Oppendonut, where a player takes a right-hand grip in a left-hand Donut."

Z-Hills Commandos had a personnel change, as well. Drew Zastrow filled the slot for Paul Bartkus, who was not available. He took the Center Inside slot that he is familiar with, and his wife Emily Zastrow moved to the Tail position for the meet. This move made it a real family affair, as Yvette and Keith Walter combined for the front piece, while the Zastrows flew the rear piece.
