Did You Know...

... that Northwest Skydiving League teams and competitors still wait for the beginning of summer?

Deb Correia creeping with Kelli Alspach, Jay Alspach and Brittany Crolley
posted Jul 3rd, 2012 - The NSL News reported on 16 May 2012 that Deb Correia was calling the Northwest Skydiving League community back to action. The story on 5 June 2012 explained how iFLY Seattle hosted an indoor event that included the potential 4way teams and competitors of the NWSL 2012 season.

The first outdoor competition was scheduled for last weekend, and the NSL News reported earlier that the event was completely weathered out. This did not hold back Deb Correia from using the ground time for valuable coaching sessions and general jump preparations. She also discussed an indoor showdown between iFLY Seattle/Northwest Skydiving League and iFLY Orlando/Florida Skydiving League with the participants at Skydive Snohomish. Details of this event will follow.

The NWSL teams and competitors were limited to ground work last weekend, and Deb Correia could only provide information for an NSL News update from the Northwest territory, instead of the first 2012 scores.

More ground work with Dave Correia: Andrew Gaiovyi , Jack Davis and Jonathan Clark, Jay Alspach, David Zhang
After a long hiatus in the Northwest, the opening of iFLY Seattle last fall was the impetus that kick-started interest in 4way, and enthusiasm was high for the first NWSL meet in many years. Unfortunately, summer has yet to arrive in Seattle, and the meet was weathered out.

On Friday night, NWSL teams and competitors met at the Skydive Snohomish to receive the competition draw. Fun Sponge, with Jay Alspach, Kelli Alspach, Brittany Crolley and coach Deb Correia, was the only complete team to show up and walk the dives. Also present were Dave Correia, David Patterson, who was planning to shoot video, plus Andrew Gaiovyi and Jonathan Clark, who were interested in doing a Rookie Class team.

Dave and Deb Correia walked through the dives with Andrew and Jonathan with a good idea of who the other two teammates would be.

Still all smiles: Kelli Alspach, David Zhang, Brittany Crolley, David Patterson, Kurt Hodge and Rani Abdellitif
Saturday morning proved that there would be plenty of time for dirt diving and creeping. Fun Sponge and BLD, with Dave Correia, Rani Abdellitif, Jason Salameh and David Zhang, walked and creeped their dives.

Dave Correia also worked with the Rookie Class team that now also included Jack Davis. They walked through the dives, creeped, and talked about communication, keys, and exits. The meet was called for the day when the weather forecast made it obvious that the teams wouldn't be jumping.

Unfortunately, Sunday's weather was a repeat of Saturday's, and the meet was called at 10:30 with not a single jump made. The NWSL teams and competitors are still confident that summer will be arriving on July 5, as it so often does, and that the next meet will be a huge success. The July meet of the Northwest Skydiving League is scheduled for the 21st.
