Did You Know...

... that SDC Furies XP were the actual AAA Class top team last weekend?

posted Jul 10th, 2012 - Last weekend's AAA Class leaderboard requires a similar adjustment as in the Rookie Class. It was again a team from Germany that this time took away the AAA Class top spot from the Midwest Skydiving League. Once again, the positions were switched due to the meet average rankings on the overall leaderboard.

EADS completed all ten rounds of last weekend's competition draw at the Paranodon Cup in Germany, while SDC Furies XP was done after six rounds at Chicagoland Skydiving. The numbers per round show that the Furies were actually six points ahead of the Germans after Round 6.

The last four rounds generated a 17.0 average for EADS, compared to a 14.3 average in the first six rounds, which explains the 15.4 average after ten rounds. However, the Furies had the upper hand after Round 6 and deserve the 1st place on the adjusted leaderboard. Nothing changed in the AAA Class rankings between the other teams.

Outscoring the German 4way team is quite an achievement for the SDC Furies XP, as EADS stands for top level 4way and 8way competition in Germany. EADS was the name of the national teams in 4way before Paratec-Saar took over the top spot, and the German national 8way team has been competing under EADS for many years.

Last weekend's EADS lineup included three members of the current national 8way team. Thomas Spielvogel and Olaf Biedermann are probably the most experienced 4way and 8way competitors in Germany and internationally very well known after competing at many World Meets and World Cups. Thomas "Spieli" Spielvogel has attended more World Meets than any other German FS competitor and was in competition with celebrities like Craig Girard, Pete Allum and Mark Kirkby for the highest number of World Meets worldwide before he missed the 2010 competition in Menzelinsk, Russia.

Dynamite at the World Cup 2011
Thomas Mack was introduced by the NSL News on 2 January 2012 as the new member of the German 8way lineup. Just last week he made new headlines when he won the annual German 2way competition with his former Final Four team mate Christian Schäfer.

Last weekend's EADS 3way will most likely compete in 4way at the German Nationals 2012. Göran Meyer is the 4th 8way member who is not in the Paratec-Saar lineup and usually competes with the second half of the 8way lineup.

Dynamite, with Thomas Spielvogel, Olaf Biedermann, Göran Meyer and Henning Stumpp won the bronze medals at the German Nationals 2011 behind Final Four. Thomas Mack has replaced Henning Stumpp for EADS and will try to defend his Final Four silver medal. He needs the help of the other three EADS bronze medal winners...
