Did You Know...

... that NWSL Yeah Team won the Rookie Class showdown last weekend?

AA Class winner Miami Exuberance
posted Jul 26th, 2012 - The meets of the Carolina and MidAtlantic Skydiving League being weathered out left only teams from the Northwest and Florida Skydiving League on last weekend's leaderboard in the Unites States. The competition at Hibaldstow, UK, had a different draw.

This coincidence brought additional spice to the indoor competition project between the teams and competitors of both regions at iFLY Orlando and iFLY Seattle that the NSL News had introduced on 6 July 2012. Both leagues did not synchronize their 2012 schedules at the beginning of the season, and last weekend's meets just happened to be on the same date.

Several of the teams and competitors who are involved with the indoor project naturally posted outdoor scores last weekend, as well, and teams from the Northwest and Florida had their internal outdoor battles in two categories. The AA Class had only teams from Florida, and Exuberance from Miami beat Teiwaz from DeLand by a single point after four rounds.

A Class winner Zunday
Zunday from Skydive City did not give Fun Sponge much of a chance in the AA Class competition and won by five points. It still took Zunday the highest meet average of the 2012 season to outscore the NWSL team in this category.

The Zunday members were well prepared. The same lineup (Sebastian Jimenez, Jon Agar, Keith Murray, Gary Fox) had also posted the 12-pointer for iFLY Orlando and the Florida Skydiving League in the AAA Rookie category after additional indoor training.

iFLY Seattle and the Northwest Skydiving League have not challenged this score yet. However, NWSL Director Deb Coreia reported that she will have a surprise before the end of the month and the first round of the virtual indoor competition. Fact is that Zunday won the A Class outdoor competition last weekend.

Most consistent Rookie Class performance: Yeah Team
The Northwest Skydiving League had its strong showing in the Rookie Class. Twice as many NWSL teams competed in this category, and the Yeah Team and Synergy both placed in front of the first and best FSL team, Not Yet.

Sarah Hernandez and Matt Hilson have also posted scores for the FSL/iFLY Orlando delegation. They had joined forces with player coaches Ari Perelman and Bob Byrne for the 18-pointer in the AA Rookie category. They competed with Craig Sagalow and David MacAdam for Not Yet at the outdoor meet last weekend and were not far behind the two NWSL teams.

Synergy posted the highest Rookie Class score with the 8-pointer in Round 5. However, Yeah Team had the most consistent performance of all six Rookie Class teams and finished in 1st place. The score between the two delegations from the Northwest and Florida is tied at the moment with one win each in the two categories. The outcome of the July indoor competition will be the tie breaker. Both delegations have a few more days to post or improve their scores.
