Did You Know...

... that Joe Kittinger visited SkyQuest Florida on Saturday?

Take-off for the first 110way attempt
posted Nov 17th, 2012 - Once again, the Kaleidoscope Divers did not get much jumping on Saturday at SkyQuest Florida 2012. The weather forecast was not very good at all, and the meteorologists were correct this time - concerning the big way fans.

BJ Worth called his group to action in the morning when the skies offered enough space for a 110way Star. The first attempt was promising but not successful. The World Team leader had actually planned to make a few 60way warmup jumps with all Kaleidoscope Divers, which did not materialize due to the weather situation. He had to go straight to 110ways when the weather allowed a bigway attempt.

Also once again, the smaller groups were not affected by the weather. France had a full day of 8way training, while the 4way teams completed between four and seven rounds on Saturday.

The bigway fans were patient and waited all day long for weather conditions that would support BJ's plan to build the biggest round Star in history. It did not happen on Saturday, and Sunday ist the last day of the event. Chances are still wide open, as many of the participants just built the 120way in DeLand last week successfully.

The patience was also rewarded in a very different way. Joe Kittinger honored SkyQuest 2012 with his visit and a speach at the Perfect Spot DZ restaurant on Saturday afternoon.

Colonel Joseph William Kittinger II is most famous for setting the record for the longest skydive in 1960 from a height greater than 31 kilometres (19 mi), and he was also the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon. He told the story of his own trip high into the atmosphere, while the video of Felix Baumgartner's recent record jump played on a screen in the background. The whole DZ had the opportunity to listen to Joe Kittinger at any location.

Comfortable lead at the end of the day: DeLand Higgs Boson
At the same time, the five A Class teams from three different leagues are in the middle of a great battle for the first three places and the 2012 championship title.

The leaderboard after Round 4 shows that each of the teams can win a round at any time. Sinner G of the Northwest Skydiving League had to take a break after winning Round 4 due to a rough landing of a team member, while the other four teams continued with the completion of more meet rounds.

DeLand Higgs Boson has worked out a good lead at the moment but funneled the exit of the fast sequence in Round 7. The other A Class teams will try to take advantage of the situation tomorrow morning with the opportunity to catch up with the current leader from Florida. It could still become a close race if any of the pursuers scores high in Round 7.
