Aerodyne Maubeuge and Golden Knights were exactly one point away from each other, as both teams broke the last completed scoring formation when working time ran out. Round 1 had a slower sequence, and both scores were on a level that would seriously threaten the 22.3 record average of 1997, even without any Super Sequences.

Sky Panthers Barkli, still without Leonid Kazinets, might even have a chance to get closer to the two top contenders than it might have seemed so far. The Russian 8way team was only a finger tip away from the 20th scoring formation. The French and Russian lineups are both loaded with former and reigning 8way world champions, and the NSL News will introduce them at a later time.

Four 8way teams, including the Golden Knights, jumped Round 2 before inclement weather stopped the meet for good on Friday. France and Russia will try tomorrow to outscore the Golden Knights' 19-pointer. Germany has to deal with the Swiss 13-pointer.

The adjusted 8way leaderboard shows the cut lines after Round 1. It seems like all 16 teams will fight for the ten slots in the semifinals. Only six 8way teams will be done after Round 8.

Then it will be just as exciting for the six slots in the final round, as the scores after Round 1 indicate. Both young and new 8way teams from Dubai and Qatar are in the race for semifinals and finals. The Mondial 2012 has the best participation and will also have the most exciting competition.
