Did You Know...

... that Evolution competed with four different lineups this year?

Lemay brothers Martin, Vincent, Benoit
posted Dec 17th, 2012 - The 4way Open Class competition in Singapore was also far from over after Round 8. The leaderboard is now complete and includes the point deductions for all teams.

The report of the VFS 4way competition requires a few corrections, which are related to Canada's team Evolution. Katie Woods in on the team photo, however, she did not compete for Evolution in VFS 4way. She was only in the traditional Open Class lineup.

JC Ouimet competed together with the three Lemay brothers, Martin, Vincent and Benoit. He is a tunnel instructor in Montreal and has trained with Evolution's VFS 4way lineup after competing against the Lemays at the national championships.

It might have been a little bit confusing to figure out the Evolution lineup without looking at the team directly at the event site. Evolution attended seven meets this year, and six of them are listed on the team page. Four of the six meets had different lineups.

Actually, three team members were always the same: the Lemay brothers Martin, Vincent and Benoit. The fourth slot was shared between father Michel (4way Open outdoor), Katie Woods (4way Open indoor), Philippe Thibodeau (VFS 4way Outdoor), Jean-Christophe Ouimet (VFS 4way indoor). Got it...?

Mondial Dubai 2012 4way Open lineup at work
That's not all. The latest scores from Singapore in the 4way Open Class competition added some interesting lineup twists to the Evolution story.

Father Michel Lemay had the Center Inside slot for the 4way Open Class outdoor lineup before he retired after the Mondial Dubai 2012.

Katie Woods is the new team member, and she has been in the front piece most of the time in her young career. Evolution decided to start from scratch with the new lineup and assign the ideal slots for each team member.

The outcome of the slot scramble brought quite different results. Former Point Benoit Lemay is the new Tail. Former Tail Vincent Lemay has taken the Center Outside position, and oldest brother Martin is now in father Michel's former Center Inside slot.

Only Katie Woods continues in her most familiar Point slot. Thus, she was not the new "Evolution engine", that drove the team to the top performance, as the NSL News announced on 14 December 2012. However, it was a top performance anyway - with all the other new slots...

Mondial Dubai 2012 VFS 4way lineup
Jean-Christophe "JC" Ouimet was competing for Evolution's VFS 4way lineup in Singapore, even though he was not in the active VFS lineup at the Mondial. He was filming both Evolution lineups in Dubai. VFS 4way filming is very challenging and requires highly advanced flying skills.

Philippe Thibodeau was competing at the Mondial after winning the Canadian Nationals 2012 with Evolution, where Jean-Christophe Ouimet's team finished in 2nd place. Philippe Thibodeau also competed with Evolution at the USPA Nationals 2012.

The new Evolution 4way Open Class lineup finished four points behind SDC Rhythm XP in Singapore, and the US team confirmed that it can claim the highest 4way Open Class ranking in the world behind the three medal winners in Dubai. However, this will most likely remain as an open account between both teams. They had one other opportunity this year to compare directly, and Rhythm won by 17 points at the USPA Nationals.

Both teams had new lineups in Singapore, and the difference is down to four points after the 11-round meet. The second leaderboard shows how close both teams were in the windtunnel. The 4th place in the world will probably be disputed again at the beginning of the 2012 season...
