Did You Know...

... that Larry Hill has great plans for the USPA Nationals 2008?

Planning session in the NSL office
posted Oct 7th, 2008 - The USPA Nationals 2008 are less than two weeks away, and the new direct link to the event pages on the front page indicates that it is time to get ready for the next exciting competition.

The NSL News is planning to add features to the traditional event coverage. Plans are in the works, and they include a daily news shows in front of the NSL-TV camera and a night show with "alternative" news, as well. More video clips will be uploaded frequently to bring the event atmosphere to the homes and offices of the audience. Blogs will be added to the traditional NSL News stories.

Plan is to run three different news pages parallel with each other and update them consistently: the NSL News page, the NSL Blog page and a separate page with links to all video clips. Performance Designs staff members Morten Pedersen and Kolla Kolbeinsdottir are working together with the NSL News to bring the new features to the on-line audience.

The NSL News coverage of the USPA Nationals 2008 is brought to you with the help of:

Event host and Skydive Arizona owner Larry Hill is motivated to present this year's USPA Nationals in a different way, too. He is preparing his staff and the skydiving center for the most efficient competition in the history of the USPA championship.

He explained to the NSL News that the days are over when the teams in Eloy and at other host locations of the USPA Nationals had to wait for a long time until they would know the scores of their previous competition jumps. Larry Hill said that he wants to guarantee a dubbing and judging procedure that provides the scores for all teams before they enter the plane for the next competition jump.

It is a very challenging goal, as the USPA Nationals of the past have shown. The number of attending 4-way teams usually did not allow the host to keep up with the process of dubbing and judging the incoming meet videos.

There have hardly ever been difficulties in getting the teams in the air, especially not in Eloy where Larry Hill operates the largest fleet of jump planes in the skydiving world. However, he is now also motivated and committed to master the challenge of the dubbing and judging procedures at the same time.

He has hired 30 judges to master the large amount of competition videos in a timely matter. This adds up to six panels of five judges and would allow him to get the scores posted before each team's first call for the next competition jump.

Committee meeting in Eloy
It will also require a lot of hardware, dubbing stations and helping hands to get the work load done. However, Larry Hill wants to show that it can be done, and he will be prepared in all aspects.

Lawrence E. Hill is probably the most experienced host of skydiving competitions in the history of the sport. He made his first jump in April 1967 in an organization that was known as the Parachute Club of America (PCA). He said that he has seen many changes in the sport ever since.

He became involved with USPA quickly, obtained all instructional ratings and has been active in student training for the length of his active jumping career. His activities included being a jumpmaster and instructor to running a school employing up to 30 people.

Larry Hill has attended every meeting of the USPA Board of Directors, both as a member of the organization and as an elected National Director since 1985. He began attending every meeting of the International Parachuting Commission (IPC) in 1991 and has experienced the operations of both organisations from the outside and as a member.

His efforts in the sport went further. He became a contributing factor in the growth of competition and increasing the participation at the USPA Nationals in all disciplines. The birth of Omniskore in Eloy happened in 1993 due to Larry Hill's desire to have a public scoring system for spectators and competitors.

Running one of the largest skydiving centers in the world and hosting multiple high-profile and international competitions has given him knowledge in all aspects of the sport that he loves.

USPA FS Committee with Larry Hill
Larry Hill plans to run one more time for the position as a USPA National Director this year. He plans to show at the USPA Nationals 2008 how he understands serving the needs of the membership. He wants to bring in one more time his comprehensive experiences in all aspects of the sport.

He obviously has the knowledge of the past and a vision of the future that he wants to present this month at the USPA Nationals 2008. The NSL News is ready to show the audience and the skydiving community how Larry Hill plans to continue with his services as a USPA National Director, as he promised: "With your support I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability."
