Did You Know...

... that Perris Fury continues and extends the coaching project in 2009?

USPA silver medals for Perris Fury
posted Dec 15th, 2008 - Team building efforts continue in California. The NSL News reported of the "team shopping" camp in Perris last week, where Perris Fury members helped to connect skydivers with each other. At the same time, Fury's successful 8-way project continues, as well.

The NSL News reported on 24 October 2008 that Perris Fury's 8-way project was responsible for 35% of the 8-way participation at the USPA Nationals 2008.

The Fury members could not copy the same project concept for any similar 4-way efforts. Christy Frikken (Center Outside), Chris Farina (Center Inside), Josh Hall (Point), Uli Steuwe (Tail) and Niklas Daniel (Camera) were too busy on their way to win the first USPA medals in the Open Class. There was not enough time for coaching and no room at all for player coaching projects.

This will change this year, as Perris Fury plans to extend the team project and include 8-way and 4-way, as Christy Frikken recently announced:

"Also, new for 2009, running concurrently with the 8-way teams is a new 4-way project. This project will run along side the 8-ways, with a very similar format. Participants will receive ground coaching from a Fury member and they will jump with a very experienced assistant coach during training and at the USPA Nationals."

Perris Alpha exit
She said that her team is looking forward to another exciting season of the Fury 8-Way project in 2009. Fury is once again looking for participants of all skill levels. She expects a total of five or six teams in 2009, which will train and compete on all experience levels.

The 2009 season will be the third year for Perris Fury's 8-way project. The most experienced 8-way project team, Perris Alpha with Perris Fury member Josh Hall, won bronze medals in the Open Class in Eloy.

Christy Frikken said that the Perris Fury 2009 project will be launched with a warm up camp in January and an 8-way tunnel camp. She provided additional information of these two events:

Participants of the Fury project in Perris
"If you are considering a team, the 8-way warm up jumps are on January 17th and 18th at Perris Valley. This is the perfect opportunity to jump with various people and begin forming potential team options. Everyone is welcome to this event, even if not joining a Fury 8-way team. Just come on out for some awesome 8-way fun! Due to the success of our first 8-way tunnel camp last year at Paraclete XP in North Carolina, we're returning to Paraclete XP and kick off the 2009 season with the first tunnel camp."

She also added a reminder of Perris Fury's team building philosophy:

"Remember, when forming the teams, we are searching for the most compatible group. This doesn't equate to the most talented, experienced or well known. If you've never competed before, this is a great opportunity to build your skills and form good habits."

Newcomers to the Perris Fury project can find an application form at the Perris Fury website. Christy Frikken said that the application deadline is January 31st, 2009. Interested skydivers can also get in touch with her directly by e-mail.
