The Swedish 4-way team Evolution, which represented one of the four scandinavian countries in Maubeuge, was a part of this story.
Shortly before the world meet, on 29 July 2008, the NSL News had reported that Evolution surprisingly won the national championship and upset Blue Spirits by winning the Swedish tickets to the world meet at the last minute.
It was still a surprise when Evolution eventually made the trip to Maubeuge after Blue Spirits had won two previous meets over the major opponent this year.
Blue Spirits won by 16 points after ten rounds in May (14.8 - 13.2) and again by three points after three rounds (14.0 - 13.3) in June. The tables turned in July when Evolution won the national championship by nine points over Blue Spirits (16.1 - 15.2) after ten rounds and traveled to France next month. Evolution ended up in 15th place at the world meet with a 15.0 average.
Evolution's coach, former DeLand Majik 4-way world champion Joey Jones, recently informed the NSL News that Evolution has already made new plans for the 2009 season. He said that he will be coaching the same lineup (Martin Askelin, Emil Einarsson, Rickard Rodensjo, Felix Wallberg, Niklas Rodensjo on camera) and that the training will begin in February 2009 at Bodyflight Bedford.
Joey Jones said that Evolution was motivated to continue by the success of the 2008 season and the performance at the world meet: "We had a good run all the way to the world meet and hope to continue the trend. It is the same team as last year. We start the season in Bedford this February."
Joey Jones said that he will also continue his work with the new Hayabusa Defence lineup. The Belgium world class team will begin earlier with its 2009 training and also compete at the World Challenge 2009. Hayabusa Defence placed 5th at last year's event with a 25.4 average. Sweden's team Evolution will attend its first indoor competition in Bedford in April 2009.
