Did You Know...

... that a Dutch/Belgian combination aims at the 20-point average?

Jacco van Eerden with team Pulse
posted Feb 9th, 2009 - The NSL News provided an update from the Netherlands on 5 February 2009. The new manager of the Dutch Skydiving League, Gerhard Schut, and coach Gary Smith had recently sent information of the team situation in the Netherlands to the NSL News.

The story mentioned that there also a few international team projects with Dutch participation in the works. Former Pulse member Jacco van Eerden and Paul Hofstee, member of the Dutch national team Dynamic Fource, have joined forces with two Belgian competitors. The plan for the 2009 season included possibly competing at the ESL Championship 2009.

The NSL News had no information by then who the two Belgian competitors would be. Hayabusa Defence's Center Outside David Grauwels helped out with the information from the Belgian side, shortly after the article was posted.

Spa Hayabusa at the World Meet 2006
One of the two Belgian competitors is actually a former Hayabusa member and David Grauwels' former teammate. Sven Ibens was the Center Inside for the Belgian national team until and throughout the World Meet 2006 in Germany. He left the team when Hayabusa turned pro and joined the Belgian military forces to train full time.

Sven Ibens was also managing the Belgian Skydiving League and the ESL Championship events for several years and helped to bring the European Skydiving League into the spotlight of the international 4-way community. His top level 4-way experience will be of great value for the international lineup.

Belgian 8-way team at the World Meet 2008
Wesley Claessens is the other Belgian competitor and the 4th team member of the new Dutch/Belgian combination. He was a member of the Belgian 8-way lineup that competed at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2008 in France, Maubeuge. The team's 13.1 average after seven rounds was the highest 8-way meet average in Belgian history. The Belgian 8-way team gave the well trained British team Connextion a good run for the 5th place and finished only two points behind.

David Grauwels said that the team is currently training only indoor at the Dutch windtunnel in Roosendaal. The outdoor training will probably begin with a training camp in March. He added that Thomas Hughes is the team's likely candidate for coaching.

David Grauwels is sure that this lineup will get up to a top performance level very quickly: "This is possibly another 20+ average team!"
