Did You Know...

... that Miami Synergy will compete in the AA Class?

Zero Tolerance scores of 2008
posted Feb 19th, 2009 - The NSL News has covered the A Class team from Skydive Miami in Homestead, Zero Tolerance Miami, several times last year and many times ever since the team was founded in January 2001. The Center Inside of Zero Tolerance 2008, Guido Marti, is a founding member of the original 2001 lineup and took a longer break before he came back with the 2008 lineup. The NSL News brought the complete team history to the attention of the audience on 12 June 2008 (Archives > 2008 > News > Search for "Zero Tolerance").

The last update came with the NSL News coverage of the NSL Championship 2008 where Zero Tolerance and Mile Hi Mayhem battled it out for the top spot over ten rounds. The Colorado team won by one single point, and the story on 29 November 2008 provided all the details of this race.

Zero Tolerance Miami has always competed in the A Class and reached the 10.0 average level for the first time last year. The highest 6-round average was 12.8 in September 2008, and the 11.1 average at the NSL Championship 2008 was the team's first 10-round competition.

The progressive 2008 season and the new scoring and performance level eventually motivated three of the Zero Tolerance 2008 members to move up into the AA Class competition this year.

Founding father Guido Marti decided to continue in the same category and help new skydivers from South Florida to learn the A Class dive pool. He will forward his experiences to a new lineup in 2009.

The other three members, Pamela Manos, Alex Kolb and Trevor Cedar are very excited about the new challenges this year. The 2008 season was the first year of 4-way competition for Alex Kolb and Trevor Cedar. They learned so much and had even more fun that they can't wait to continue with a new dive pool and new techniques to learn. Teiwaz member Bob Byrne has been working with the team in 2008 and will be the team's coach again in 2009.

Alex Kolb with Miami Vice in 2007
Alex Kolb started skydiving in Colombia in 2000 with the military even though she was a civilian and has actually never been enrolled in the military.

However, she started skydiving with round parachutes and static lines and eventually made her transition to square canopies. The connections with the military allowed herself and her fellow skydivers in Colombia to make jumps from many types of military aircraft, such as Black Hawks, MI-17, Bell 206, and Cassnas among others.

She never made a tandem jump before she had little over 100 jumps. Then she helped a friend to graduate as a tandem instructor and finally experienced real freefall. She traveled to DeLand in 2001, got her C-License - and then stopped skydiving in 2002.

It turned out to be a 5-year break for Alex Kolb, and she said that she missed skydiving very much at that time.

She came back to the sport in May 2007 at Skydive Miami and did her first 4-way jumps in September 2007. She already attended one meet with Skydive Miami's Rookie Class team Miami Vice at the FSL September meet in Deland.

Her next step was to join the new Zero Tolerance lineup in the Tail slot. She said that she had an incredible season with the team. Now she has almost 480 jumps and prepares for the 2009 season with the new lineup. She has a new slot in her second year and moves from Tail to Center Outside, while Pamela Manos takes the Tail slot.

Trevor Cedar with teammate Alex Kolb
Point Trevor Cedar is a very young skydiver who made his first jump in the summer of 2007. After being an athlete and competitor in other sports, he did not hesitate to take on the new skydiving challenge with full power.

He already completed 650 jumps and approx. 15 hours of windtunnel training in these 1.5 years and just got his coaching rating. He is 42 years old and owns and operates three fitness studios in the Miami area, the South Florida Boxing and Fitness Gym.

Trevor Cedar was born in Australia and grew up in England. He has been living in the USA for 16 years. He is very excited to be a 4-way competitor, as he expressed in a recent message to the NSL News: "The NSL is doing an amazing job with the skydiving competition league. 4-way is my true love, and the NSL has given us new skydivers a way to persue our personal dreams." Thanks for the credit, Trevor.

Skydiving hard in 4-way: Pam Manos at an FSL meet in 2008
Pam Manos, stunt actress in several skydiving movies, together with her husband, filmmaker and former 4-way world champion of 1985, Guy Manos, has become just as passionate about 4-way competition as her husband used to be.

She recruits new 4-way talent from her student base in Homestead and guides them carefully into Formation Skydiving competition. That's how Alex Kolb and Trevor Cedar ended up in her lineup.

The Miami team obviously needed a new member when Guido Marti decided to continue in the A Class and take care of new talent. Pam Manos once again looked around on her home turf in Homestead and found Daniel Garcia-Barbon.

Danny Garcia with Miami Evolution
Danny Garcia is the team's new Center Inside and young of age and in his skydiving career. He is 21 years old and will replace Guido Marti in the driver's seat. He has been skydiving since August 2007. He has not been as busy as his new teammate Trevor Cedar ever since, which is almost impossible. However, he has already completed his own 270 jumps and approx. four hours in the windtunnel.

He started his competition career with a Rookie Class team from Skydive Miami, as well, and was a member of Miami Evolution at the last four FSL meets in 2008. Evolution posted a 10.3 average at the September meet. He said that he had a great time and is now very much looking forward to the 2009 season. It will be a big step for him from the Rookie Class to the driver's seat in the AA Class. Danny Garcia is a full time commercial pilot for private customers in his personal life. He was also just hired by the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller in Miami.

Finally, the new lineup also has a new videographer. Jose M. Cardozo is 38 years old, and photography is his hobby anyway. He is from Argentine and made his first jump at the age of 18 in his home country in 1988. He needed authorization by both of his parents who had to sign a waiver for his first jump.

He has a lot of demo jumps under his belt, most of them at night time, and eventually turned to camera flying. Now he has logged more than 500 jumps on camera, shared between Formation Skydiving and Freeflying. He loves skydiving and expresses his passion with his own special quote: "If God meant for people not to fly, He would have given them roots".

The new lineup for the 2009 season and moving up into the AA Class motivated the team to create a new name. Zero Tolerance is attached to Guido Marti and the A Class competition by tradition. Pamela Manos, Alex Kolb, Trevor Cedar, Danny Garcia and Jose M. Cardozo will compete for Miami Synergy.

The training is already in full swing, and Synergy will compete for the first time at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2009. It will be the first lineup from Skydive Miami that will post scores on the AA Class leaderboard.
