Did You Know...

... that Caroline Layne has unfinished 4way business?

Complete DeLand Slide lineup
posted May 8th, 2013 - The team name DeLand Slide appeared at Skyleague.com the first time after the April meet of the Florida Skydiving League. It was a weather meet, and the new team posted a 7-pointer for the only competition sequence that could be completed in DeLand.

Later in April, the NSL News learned that team member Caroline Layne has a very special story to tell and followed up on 29 April 2013. First, her story was mostly about her older brother James who was Dan BC's team mate and lost his life in the 1992 plane crash in Perris.

Then the NSL News learned that Caroline Layne was ready to follow the same passion for 4way that her brother had 20 years ago. She explained that her team has serious plans for 2013 and 2014 and that she has some unfinished business. She seems to be ready to go as far as her own road will take her in 4way competition.

Creeping work last weekend
The one and only round in April was her first competition jump after a 15-year break and coming back to skydiving a year and a half ago. She told the NSL News that many more competition rounds will follow from here on forward when the NSL News spent a few hours with her and DeLand Slide on a training day last weekend.

The DeLand Slide lineup at the April jump was not complete and changed later. Caroline Layne and Steve Hubbard did the meet round with Hal Spence and Tom Finnegan. Randy Cutlip was not available, and Gilles Dutrisac joined the team later as a player coach.

DeLand Slide trained with the complete lineup for the first time last weekend, and the camp included indoor training on Saturday evening at iFLY Orlando. Randy Cutlip and Steve Hubbard have attended the FSL Tunnel Kickers several times, where Gilles Dutrisac has also been active as a player coach.

A year and a half in the sport: Caroline Layne - Steve Hubbard
Steve Hubbard made his first jump at about the same time when Caroline Layne came back to skydiving after her 15-year break. They connected in DeLand and began to make team plans.

DeLand Slide is working on getting familiar with the 16 blocks of the AA Class with the main focus on the first set of eight blocks in the A Class. Plan is to compete in the A Class at the first meets of the 2013 season and then move up into the AA Class later this year. The NSL Championship at SkyQuest Florida 2013 is this year's goal, and the team plans to go to the USPA Nationals in 2014.

The next meet of the Florida Skydiving League is coming up on the May 18 weekend, and DeLand Slide hopes to complete more than one round only. The NSL News will follow the progression of Caroline Layne's first 4way team.
