Did You Know...

... that the Atmosfera G4 lineup has not changed since 2009?

Atmosfera G4 team beginnings in 2007
posted May 23rd, 2013 - The NSL News introduced Portugal's national 4way team Atmosfera G4 the first time with the story on 4 March 2010. The 2010 season was the third year for Atmosfera G4 after a long break from 4way competition for teams from the small country in south western Europe.

The Atmosfera project was launched in 2007 by João Henriques, Jorge Grade, Luís Candeias, Luís Mamão and Jaime Faustino. Atmosfera G4 then attended an international competition for the first time in 2009, the World Challenge at Bodyflight Bedford.

The story on 30 April 2012 brought the team from Portugal back to the attention of the NSL News audience. Original members Jorge Grade and Luís Candeias told the NSL News at the World Challenge 2012 that their current coach Gary Smith was already working with their 1999 lineup, as well.

Portugal's 4way history: Green = Outdoor, Red = Indoor
Jorge Grade and Luís Candeias are the longest standing competitors in Portugal. They attended their first World Championship of Formation Skydiving in 1999 (7.9) and came back after the long break between 2002 and 2008. Now they competed again for Portugal at the Mondial Dubai 2012 where they finished with an 11.5 average. The team's highest outdoor meet average was posted at the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk, Russia (14.8) which was boosted by a fast Super Sequence.

The Atmosfera G4 members are passionate 4way pioneers in Portugal and have been a solid part of the international 4way community since 2009. The team's performance level is going up year by year just as much as their engagement in the sport. Portugal's 4way progression began with a 4.3 average at the World Meet 1989 in Spain...

This year's 17.4 indoor average at the World Challenge 2013 was also the highest team average without a Super Sequence.

Atmosfera G4 project extended to 8way
Jorge Grade and Luís Candeias attended their 5th world meet last year in Dubai, while their current team mates Joao Henriques and Luis Mamao have two world meets (2010 - 2012) and two world cups (2009 - 2011) under their belt.

Atmosfera G4 has also attended each World Challenge since 2009 with the same lineup, which is a unique accomplishment in itself. In fact, the same counts for the outdoor meets in the same time period. Consistency and continuity is obviously a corner stone of the Atmosfera project.

The World Cup in Banjaluka (Bosnia and Herzegovina) is on the team's agenda for the 2013 season, and it would be no surprise to see the Atmosfera G4 8way team compete there for the first time. The Atmosfera project was extended to 8way not too long ago, and the team is in training.
