Did You Know...

... that Spaceland Lite launched the 2013 season with a new team record average?

First Spaceland Lite lineup in 2009
posted Jul 3rd, 2013 - The 4way teams from Texas were the dominating factor on last weekend's overall leaderboard this time. Eight teams competed in three different categories at Spaceland, and the Texas teams won in each category. Spaceland Lite took the first place in the AAA Class, Spaceland SPX5 did the same in the AA Class, and the Rookie Class home team Spel Chek won the Rookie Class.

Spaceland Lite outscored Dallas En Fuego on home turf and AAA Class teams from two other locations (Northern Plains, Czech Republic) on the overall AAA Class leaderboard of last weekend's events.

The 14.2 average is the highest meet average for Spaceland Lite in the records, and the team has been around for a while. The Lite story began with an 8.0 average at a meet of the Texas Skydiving League 2009. Three of the current team members (Richard Rothery, Devon and Katrina Shows) were in the 2009 lineup and followed up with a 9.1 average at the USPA Nationals.

Spaceland Lite between 2009 and 2013
Spaceland Lite started in the AAA Class, first in the Advanced Class at the USPA Nationals (2009 - 2011) and now for the second year in USPA's Open Class. The Texas team had to move up into the Open Class after winning the USPA Advanced Class gold medals in 2011.

Christy West joined Richard Rothery, Devon and Katrina Shows in 2010, and Lite placed 4th at the USPA Nationals. The same lineup continued in 2011 and won the Advanced Class gold medals with a 13.1 average after a fierce 10-round competition with Start 4 and Fallout.

Spaceland Lite was one single point ahead after ten rounds, and the two other top contenders had to go into a jump-off round to break the tie for 2nd place.

USPA Advanced Class gold medals in 2011
Spaceland Lite's Point and original member Richard Rothery took a break in 2012. Joseph Wood joined the team for the first year in the AAA Open Class competition, and Lite finished with a new 13.9 highscore at the USPA Nationals after attending three meets in Texas before.

Richard Rothery has now come back for the 2013 season, and Spaceland Lite trains and competes with the same lineup of 2010 and 2011. It will be the first competition for Richard Rothery in the Open Class of the USPA Nationals, and the Texas team will try to improve last year's 10th place finish.

The 13.9 average in Eloy last year would not have been good enough to win the Advanced Class, but previous winners have to move up according to the USPA rules. Spaceland Lite's 13.9 average would have tied the team in 3rd place, Team ZeBone. However, the 14.2 average last weekend is a new team record average and a great start into the 2013 season.
