Did You Know...

... that Evolution members won the first three places at the Canadian Nationals 2013?

Katie Woods with team videographer Jean Christophe Oumet
posted Jul 17th, 2013 - The 4way competition at the Canadian Nationals 2013 is over, and the national lineups for the 2014 season are Evolution in the Open Class and Fuzion in the female category. Both teams will represent Canada at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving next year in Prostejov.

Evolution did not have any serious competition in Canada. However, team founder and father Michel Lemay had to come back and step in for his son Martin Lemay who is nursing his shoulder injury.

The Sun Path Products NSL News reported earlier that Martin Lemay would not be able to compete at the Canadian Nationals and that new Evolution Point Katie Woods would compete together with Michel Lemay for the first time. She had joined Evolution after the Mondial Dubai 2012 where the Lemay family team competed for the last time together before Michel Lemay retired from active 4way competition.

Benoit Lemay, Jean Christophe Oumet and Katie Woods after a meet jump
It was much easier for Evolution this time to bring in the substitute Michel Lemay, compared to the situation after the Mondial Dubai 2012. The three Lemay brothers and coach Shannon Pilcher had to shuffle the slots to get all members of the new lineup into the fitting positions.

Only Tail Benoit Lemay eventually came back in the same slot. Martin Lemay moved from Center Outside to Center Inside, and Vincent Lemay gave up his Point slot for Katie Woods to become the new Center Outside.

This time, Michel Lemay could just step into Martin Lemay's Center Inside slot, which he knows best, and Evolution was ready to go.

New national 4way Women team: Fuzion
The biggest surprise of the event in the female 4way competition between the three top contenders Fuzion, Crimson Fox and Torque was the way how Fuzion ran away from the two other teams. The team's 15.6 average is also pointing in a very obvious direction: to the top of the leaderboards in international female 4way competition. The Sun Path Products NSL News will follow up on this topic later.

The competition for the bronze medals between Torque and Crimson Fox still became a real thriller. Canada's national team of 2012 dominated the first half of the meet and finished with a 3-point lead on Saturday. Torque came back strongly on Sunday and turned the deficit into their own 3-point lead going into the last round. Crimson Fox then benefitted from three point deductions for Torque in Round 10 and forced a jump-off round. Torque won Round 11 by a point (14 - 13) and took the bronze medals.

It was a very successful event for the Lemay family on their home turf, with the 1st place in the AAA/Open Class, the 2nd place for coach Benoit Lemay with Fuzion and the 3rd place for Martin Lemay with Torque.
