... that the Joes are not sloppy any longer?

Enough of 11.0 averages: Czech A Class team Zoonte
posted Jul 31st, 2013 - The A Class was the only category last weekend that had a complete 6-round overall leaderboard. Teams of the Northwest Skydiving League and in the Czech Republic took advantage of a faster competition draw, which included three sequences with only random formations, and posted new record averages for the year.

Even Czech team Zoonte, 4-time winner on previous A Class overall leaderboards, was finally tired of the 11.0 average and posted a season high 12.5 average last weekend. It was Zoonte's 5th outdoor competition of the 2013 season with the 5th top position on the overall leaderboard.

The Joes and Fun Sponge, with NWSL Director Deb Correia in the lineup, had their own exciting and very close A Class battle at Skydive Kapowsin, host for the Northwest Skydiving League meets, and pushed each other round by round. It was still not enough to keep up with the Czech team.

NWSL Rookie Class 2012: Sloppy Joes
Deb Correia reported from Kapowsin that Fun Sponge had NWSL competition from a team that competed in the NWSL Rookie Class of 2012. Sloppy Joes attended three meets last year (1.0 - 5.2 - 5.6) and now came back with a new team member (Jeff Smith) and a very impressive 10.2 average.

The Joes are not sloppy any longer, as the meet average shows very clearly, and it was time to change the team name.

Deb Correia knew the team's history: "The Joes competed in 2012 in the Rookie Class, and in their first meet last year they had a 1.0 average. By the last meet they had upped their average to 5.6. Wanting to improve their skills and to move up a division, they worked with coach Dave Correia throughout the winter at iFLY Seattle, and you can really see the difference."

Deb Correia's husband Dave may have had the Joes prepared too well, as they eventually outscored Deb Correia's team Fun Sponge by two points over the six rounds.

She admitted that the Joes "had a very strong meet, with a 10+ average!" Dave Correia broke his ankle earlier this year, and coach Jeff Smith stepped in to lead the team to the NWSL victory over Fun Sponge.

The lead went back and forth almost round by round. Fun Sponge had a very strong performance, as well, and finished with a significantly higher meet average (6.8 - 9.8) than at the first NWSL meet this year. However, the exit funnel in Round 2 was too costly. Fun Sponge lost 17 seconds of working time and probably the whole meet in this round. The rematch may take place on August 17th...
