Did You Know...

... that the Blocktoberfest 2013 took place at the Mike Truffer Plaze?

Blocktoberfest 2013 at the Mike Truffer Plaza
posted Oct 25th, 2013 - The annual celebration of the Blocktoberfest took place at the appropriate time this year.

The skydiving industry businesses in the Mike Truffer Plaza were off time last year, and the event was renamed to Blovemberfest for last year's celebration of the end of summer and beautiful fall weather coming to DeLand.

Event creator Nancy LaRiviere scheduled the 2013 plaza party for a better time, and the weather was perfect on Thursday, October 24th.

Office chairs and tables were once again moved outside, where staff and owners of the small businesses dropped work and business topics for a few hours.

In fact, the Blocktoberfest 2013 experienced growth this year, as visitors from other skydiving industry in the neighborhood around the DeLand Airport joined the celebration in its 3rd year.

The Blocktoberfest took place at the same spot in front of the NSL/Blue Skies Mag offices in DeLand on 1665 Lexington Avenue. However, the NSL/Blue Skies Mag Plaza was unofficially renamed this year.

Former owner of the Skydiving Magazine, Mike Truffer, who lost his life after a skydiving accident earlier this year, was the owner of the office buildings and landlord for the small skydiving businesses.

Last year's video of the Blovemberfest shows him celebrating together with the good neighbors in his very special way. He had actually moved into one of the smaller offices after discontinuing the Skydiving Magazine business, which was located around the corner in a separate building.

He cannot be present any longer at the Blocktoberfest, however, the Mike Truffer spirit is still well known and missed in the neighborhood.

The new unofficial name of the Mike Truffer Plaza honors his contribution to the sport and his personality.
