Did You Know...

... that the DeLand Norgies had a substitute tail at this year's national championships?

Polaris at the 4th DIPC 2013
posted Dec 26th, 2013 - There are several topics and news bits that don't get the deserved attention throughout a year of Sun Path Products NSL News, as information and reports of new events keep coming in quickly day by day and week by week. The slower pace around the turn of the year offers the opportunity to catch up at least with a few of those updates.

The Sun Path Products NSL News covered the 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championship 2013 comprehensively and pointed out the reunion/comeback of Polaris, Norway's national 4way team in the female 4way category, on 7 December 2013.

The scores of Norway's national championships were covered with the story on 7 August 2013. Polaris did not attend the nationals, and there was still an interesting connection between both stories.

20.6 average at the World Meet 2001: DeLand Norgies
The DeLand Norgies did not miss the annual opportunity of their own reunion this year. However, very careful readers may have noticed that only three of the four original members (Lise Nansen, Pal Kolbenstvedt, Torstein Valen) were in the lineup at the Norwegian Nationals 2013.

Carl-Erik Tuv was not available in his Tail slot, and the three Norgies had to find a substitute. That's where the two stories connect with each other. Polaris did not compete at the national championships, and the three Norgies invited Sissel Maria Finnseth to fill the Tail slot.

It was a perfect fit, as Sissel Maria Finnseth flies the Tail slot for Polaris. It was still a challenging situation for her, as the DeLand Norgies had finished their 4way career after winning their third bronze medal at a World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2003 with a 20.6 average and never dropped much lower than 20-average at any of their annual reunions. It was a new situation for the substitute tail, whose team's highest average was 17.8 at the Mondial Dubai 2012.

21.6 average at the World Cup 2002: DeLand Norgies
Sissel Maria Finnseth is also the youngest Polaris member and was, of course, also the youngest Norgies member at this year's nationals. She was relatively new to 4way competition when she joined Polaris in 2010, after making her first jump in 2006. She had a total of just over 200 jumps when she took the Polaris tail slot.

She had good help with the Norgies at the nationals this year though. Torstein Valen is the Center Inside for the Norgies, and he shares a home with Sissel Maria Finnseth. There is no doubt that she was well prepared for her challenging meet with the former national team.

The AAA Class teams completed only two rounds at the national championships this year. However, the scores for those two rounds are showing clearly that the Polaris training has been very sufficient for the new Norgies member for the meet...
