Can you remember last year's World Challenge 2009? Team Future, with 11-year old Kayla Tinucci and her 8-year old brother Justin, competed both in 4-way and Freeflying, finished in last place of the AA Class competition and took the 6th place in the 2-way artistic event.
Bodyflight Bedford was the place where the NSL News met the Tinucci siblings for the first time in person. It was fun and impressive to watch the kids do their business, and the NSL News followed their path through the 2008 season ever since.
The 2008 lineup, with Brad Cole and Daniel Perry, finished in last place of nine AA Class teams with a 9.6 average after nine rounds. Brad Cole left the team in 2008, and Rusty Lewis came in as a player coach.
Team Future also began to copy the NSL competition draw on meet weekends and learned to be more competitive in 4-way. The NSL News posted Team Future's scores here and there, and it was already obvious that the Tinucci kids performed on a different level.
The 2009 lineup (Rusty Lewis, Daniel Perry, Kayla Tinucci, Justin Tinucci) finished with an 18.4 average, which would have been good enough for the 24th place of 37 teams with big people in the AAA Class.
Kayla and Justin Tinucci also competed once again in the Freeflying competition and took the 4th place of nine teams. It was the first time that they even won prize money in Bedford. Bodyflight owner Paul Mayer proudly handed out £500 cash to the kids.
The NSL-TV camera followed Kayla and Justin Tinucci around Bodyflight Bedford and captured a complete session of 4-way and Freeflying. The video shows how much the kids enjoy what they do and how well they do it. Of course, the support team with Dad and coach help a lot to make it as easy as possible. However, the kids still have to carry their own burden when it comes to the actual performance in the flying chamber.
The 4-way sequence of only random formations in Round 10 is on this video, and Round 10 of Freeflying can also be reviewed in the clip. Both Tinucci kids are now flying the center positions for Team Future, and they posted a 32-pointer for Round 10.
