Did You Know...

... that Texas is back with Havoc?

Scores of the TSL 2009 season opener
posted Jun 6th, 2009 - Last weekend's scores are still on the leaderboard, while teams in Austria and Germany are working on new numbers this weekend.

It was a very interesting coincidence that last weekend's events were hosted by the longest standing leagues in the country. The NSL News reported yesterday that the Georgia Skydiving League had a comeback after two years of hibernation and mentioned the oldest league, the Virginia Parachute Council, which had its season opener last weekend, as well.

The third US league that launched the 2009 season last weekend had also joined forces with Georgia and Florida in 1998 to form the National Skydiving League - Texas. Skydive Spaceland was hosting this year's season opener, which was attended by a total of eight teams.

Joe Hazel with TSL team Terminal Ecstacy
The NSL News had already mentioned earlier that the Texas Skydiving League re-joined the NSL Network this year after a few years of absence. Joe Hazel had launched the league in 1997. Ryan Smith continued his work until the Texas Skydiving League eventually decided to go its own ways. Eric Boyd is the new TSL Director in 2009 and brought Texas back into the NSL Network.

The Boyd family runs Skydive Spaceland, and this year's events include the USPA Nationals 2009. Skydive Spaceland is also the home of Spaceland Force XP and Spaceland Blue. Both teams are aiming at the status of the US national team for the World Meet 2010 in Russia. Spaceland Force XP has to win the AAA/Open Class competition at the USPA Nationals this year, and Spaceland Blue has to finish as the best all-female lineup in the same category. Both teams did not compete at the TSL season opener on their home turf, but they are expected to attend other TSL meets of the regular season.

Only teams from Denmark and Texas competed in the AAA Class, and Denmark took the first four places. Spaceland Havoc came back from the 2008 season and was the best TSL team with a 9.5 meet average. Spaceland Force XP and Spaceland Blue both would probably have taken the top spots, although Voluntas might have given Spaceland Blue a race for the 2nd place.

Has stepped up: Spaceland BS5
The teams from Texas dominated the AA Class competition. Spaceland Mamba took the first place with an 8.2 average. Spaceland BS5 had competed in the TSL Rookie Class competition of 2008, with Kari Livanec, Brad Curry, Stacy Curry and Mike Hedger in the lineup. BS5 has moved up into the AA Class this year and placed already 2nd with a 7.0 average last weekend.

Only teams from Denmark and the Georgia Skydiving League competed in the A Class and took turns in the rankings, from the top spot to the 5th place. Then only teams from Texs competed in the Rookie Class where two new lineups made for a promising start into the 2009 Rookie Class season. Only BS5 had competed in more than one Rookie Class meet last year. Spaceland Funnel Approach and Hot Flash competed at the first 2009 meet at Skydive Spaceland.

The Texas Skydiving League now moves to Skydive Dallas for the June meet.
