The indoor competitions at different windtunnels have become very popular after years of using them as a great training tool for 4-way and recently even 8-way teams. By the nature of the environment, it is no surprise that most of the teams that compete at indoor meets are also posting scores at the traditional outdoor events.
There are a few exceptions. Team Future with the Tinucci siblings can only train and compete at windtunnels. The last meet they attended was the World Challenge 2009 at Bodyflight Bedford.
Team Aeon, with teenager Ellie McCoy, was in the same situation and competed at a few indoor meets, including the World Challenge 2008, currently featured on NSL You Tube TV.
The NSL leaderboards have not mixed up indoor and outdoor competitions so far. The main reason for the separation was the fact that the indoor meets have mostly taken place during the general off-season for skydiving competition.
This situation is changing, as more indoor meets are being created. The upcoming weekend is the first one where a windtunnel competition, the Paraclete XP Indoor Skydiving Championship 2009, coincides with several outdoor events on the same date.
Each event has its own page and leaderboard, however, the overall leaderboard shows all scores of all teams that competed with the same competition draw on the same weekend. It has become more necessary than ever to show clearly which scores are indoor and which are outdoor results.
Special outdoor events, which are not related to any of the leagues in the NSL Network and are covered by the NSL News for journalistic purposes, are still listed at the NSL News page.
The separation of indoor and outdoor events will make it a little bit easier for the NSL audience to compare the scores more realistically. The teams that compete at a windtunnel competition will have the WIND as the league identification for the specific scores at this event.
The audience will be able to see on the overall leaderboard which scores were posted at a windtunnel competition. The team pages will also show which scores were indoor and which were outdoor results.
The upcoming meet weekend may become the first serious test for the combination of indoor and outdoor scores on the same leaderboard. The NSL News story on 22 May 2009 already mentioned that three world class teams will compete at the Paraclete XP competition in Raeford: Airspeed, Perris Fury, Golden Knights. There is no doubt that they will be on the very top of the leaderboard, combined or not...
