Did You Know...

... that Joey Jones competed with 4mula and reported from the UK Nationals?

4mula with Sian Stokes and Joey Jones
posted Sep 10th, 2014 - The Sun Path Products NSL News coverage of the UK Nationals 2014 is far from being completed.

The new record participation of 75 British 4-way teams is still not the world record yet, which still belongs to the United States (80 teams). However, it seems to be only a matter of time when the UK teams will eventually break it.

There is plenty of content and an unlimited number of topics for reviews. Joey Jones has provided the Sun Path Products NSL News several times with information and updates from events all over the planet.

He has anchored many NSL Reality TV clips and also attended the UK Nationals last weekend and competed with AAA Class team 4mula.

4mula competed in the AA Class last year and finished in 2nd place with an 11.3 average at the UK Nationals. The UK team had started with 4-way competition in the Rookie Class of 2010 (4.0 - 5.0 - 5.0 - 4.6) and won the same category a year later with a 12.6 average.

It was time for 4mula to move up into the A Class for the 2012 season, and the result was the same. 4mula won the 1st place at the UK Nationals 2012 with a 13.0 average.

The team did not hesitate to take on the next competition class in 2013. This time, 4mula finished in 2nd place at the national championships with an 11.3 average. 4mula also contributed to the UK account at the team's first international meet, the ESL Championship 2012, with a 2nd place in the A Class, then again with the same finish in the AA Class a year later.

Simon Ashley, Kate Lindsley, David Rodgers and videographer Mike Coleman then made plans for the 2014 season in the AAA Class and worked with coach Joey Jones for the training of the whole dive pool. The result last weekend was very impressive: the 4th place with a 17.4 average.

Battle for 4th place with Bodyflight Isis
Joey Jones reported from the United Kingdom that there was no jumping at all on the first meet day of the UK Nationals 2014. He had enough time to introduce the AAA Class field of teams:

"The absence of 5-time national team Satori left the AAA category wide open. The move by long time South African team Voodoo to the UK will probably fill that slot for 1st. The real story was the fight for the remaining two medal slots.

UK national female team and last year's silver medalist Kaizen lead a group of hungry teams looking to make their mare on the UK skydiving scene.

Last year's bronze medalist Isis has had a rebuild and is looking for redemption. Former V-Max member Claire 'Sparky' Scott is filling in for Sarah Smith, and they are feeling and looking good.

Acting UK national open class team Vision, last year's 6th place team, guided this year by long time international competitor Steve Hamilton, should also be right in the mix. Last year's 5th place team Raykipo remains the same and with limited training this year expects to be in the mix as well."

First international meet: ESL Championship 2012
Joey Jones said that his own team had an injury late in the season (Simon Ashley) and picked up former Isis member Sian Stokes: "We were only able to complete seven jumps and two hours of tunnel time, but we were hoping to stay close to the more experienced teams and make a good debut into the open class."

AAA Class newcomer 4mula did exactly that and battled with Bodyflight Isis and Raykipo for the 4th place on the first meet day. Voodoo, Kaizen and Vision 99 had their own competition for the three top spots.

Monday was the weather day, and several teams were unable to continue and complete the meet as they had to return to work. However, the weather cooperated well, and the teams finished with plenty of time to spare. Joey Jones then explained the events of the third and last day of the national championships:

2nd place in AA at ESL Championship 2013
"Voodoo skydived great on Monday, jumped to an early lead and continued to consolidate their performance throughout the day. They finished off with a record team average of 19.5 and are the new UK national champions. They will represent the UK next week at the USPA Nationals in Chicago with coach Gary Smith filling in for Liz Mathews. My team 4mula fought off a late charge from Bodyflight Isis to secure the 4th place. Both teams plan to continue, and I look forward to seeing them again next year.

There were so many teams that it was impossible to follow the action in every category. The AA Class took a big jump in average with all medal positions beating last year's winning averages. Phoenix took the gold with a 17.8 average, followed closely behind by the young and talented team Equal Pay 4 Women. The future of British 4-way competition showed up last weekend, laid it all out on the line, and guarantees a bright future for the coming years."

Next stop for Joey Jones is the USPA Nationals where he will once again provide updates for the Sun Path Products NSL News, while he competes with Bodyflight Bonobos at the same time.
