Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed agrees with 61% of the audience?

posted Oct 3rd, 2014 - 61% of the SKYLEAGUE.COM audience thought that Niklas Hemlin should be in Arizona Airspeed's point slot, while 39% voted for Chris Farina. The members of the current Airspeed lineup agree with the majority of the audience, and Niklas Hemlin will go back to the slot that he had years ago with Fastrax.

Niklas Hemlin was not in the same piece with Airspeed's center outside Thomas Hughes by then. Former DeLand Majik 4-way world champion Doug Park was his front piece partner, and Thomas Hughes was filling the center inside slot for Fastrax when Mark Kirkby left the team.

However, the point experience for Niklas Hemlin with Fastrax was one of the reasons for Arizona Airspeed to eventually come to the current decision. Thomas Hughes said that the team had the feeling it would be a good choice after a lot of tunnel time with Niklas Hemlin and Chris Farina in both slots.

Some of the indoor footage was made available for the NSL-TV audience with the slot story on 30 September 2014. Airspeed looks good in both variations, and the team eventually had to follow their instincts.

Niklas Hemlin's point experience will help to keep the training schedule for the 2015 season on the lighter side, Thomas Hughes added. Airspeed has team training scheduled until May 2015 at this point in time.

Airspeed's 2015 calendar includes the same three meets that the team attended this year, the Wind Games in Spain and the Paraclete XP Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

The new Airspeed lineup can probably afford a lighter training schedule in 2015. The performance level will most likely be very close to where the previous lineup finished off at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014. There is no serious domestic competition to be expected yet, and Airspeed's goal is the 1st place at the Mondial 2016 on home soil.

NMP-PCH Hayabusa may have some personnel changes in the lineup, and Evolution has not published any plans yet for the next two years. France is far away from the world's top performance level, and Russia recently lost one of her most talented and most experienced 4-way and 8-way competitors, Barkli member Nikolay Vylegzhanin, in a fatal accident.

The outlook for the next two years seems to be promising for Arizona Airspeed, and the new lineup will have their first meet performances in less than half a year, with point Niklas Hemlin and Thomas Hughes in the front piece, and Chris Farina with Thiago Gomes in the rear piece. Justin Price continues for Airspeed on camera.
