Did You Know...

... that teams from Sweden and Finland were weathered out early?

Evolution at the World Challenge 2009
posted Jun 25th, 2009 - The NSL News has caught up with two meets that were scheduled for the same weekend of the Paraclete XP Indoor Skydiving Championship 2009. The indoor competition in Raeford caught most of the attention, and the two other meets in Sweden and Finland went almost unnoticed.

There was a simple reason for the little attention to those events. Both Scandinavian countries had to deal with the same unfortunate weather situation. Sweden and Finland are separated by a large body of water, the Gulf of Bothnia. However, the meet weekend brought for both countries obviously the same weather troubles.

Sweden's national 4-way team Evolution was ready for the first outdoor test of the 2009 season, while Finland's best teams stayed at home. The NSL News story on 21 May 2009 had provided an Evolution update after the team's attendance at the World Challenge 2009.

Four Swedish teams showed up despite the weather situation and completed one round. Chief Judge Pia Berggren reported that the weather was really bad, with a lot of rain. However, the completed round made the event an official meet of the Swedish Cup 2009. The next meet is scheduled for the beginning of July.

The two teams in Finland that braved the weather situation got a little bit further, at least the AAA Class team HV Helsinki with three completed rounds. It was already the second meet (2.6 - 6.0) for Anne Aaltonen, Taina Humu, Hanna Hukki, Susanna Raulio and Risto Johansson on camera. The team was obviously eager to get in the air and show the impressive progression between May and June. It worked well, as the scores for the first three rounds show.

A Class team 5DQ posted the team's highest score for a single round in the meet opener, as well, and then got stopped by the weather, just as A Class Team Jumpers in Sweden, also after a 6-pointer. All teams from Finland and Sweden are now looking forward to the next meet on the same July weekend. The Scandinavian weather will hopefully be better then.
