Did You Know...

... that Angry War Lords are not a secret any longer?

Extreme Sports Week in Voss
posted Jun 28th, 2009 - New scores from Russia have already been posted. The NSL News will move forward to the new meet weekend soon. There is one more open topic of last weekend's event, as the NSL news promised earlier to provide more information of the Norwegian AA Class winner, the Angry War Lords.

The competition in Norway was held in Voss at a dropzone that is called Boemoen. The meet was a part of the opening weekend of the annual Extreme Sports Week. Voss is a beautiful small Norwegian town located approximately one hour and a half driving distance from Bergen, Norway's second biggest city.

Extreme Sports Voss offers everything for the outdoor fans: a great dropzone with a beautiful view under the open parachute, wild rivers for cayaking, mountains for base jumping and para-gliding exits and more. Besides the 4-way competition, the Extreme Sports Week also included a meet of the Norwegian Freefly Cup, with eight teams competing.

Dropzone for the skydiving part
Members of Norway's new official national 4-way team Nexus (Ellen Burchardt, Kristine Willadsen, Marianne Nordlund, Yngve Haugom) were coaching the four A Class teams in Voss, during the skills camp of the whole week and throughout the meet on the weekend.

The weekend weather was not good enough to complete all six rounds, especially as the dropzone was extremely busy due to the Extreme Sports Week activities. However, the Norwegian teams completed four rounds before the weekend was over.

The AAA Class team EX3M4s was last year's official Norwegian farm team. Marianne Nordlund, Yngve Haugom, Kjetil Nordin and Tore Granmo celebrated a reunion and finished with a 14.0 average after four rounds. Marianne Nordlund and Yngve Haugom are now members of the new national team Nexus. Kjetil Nordin and Tore Granmo have their own 2-on-2 project with Arcteryx members Ditta Valsdottir and Derek Broughton. They also competed with Frost at the World Challenge 2009.

Angry War Lords
The Angry War Lords are still in the top spot of the international A Class leaderboard with 17 teams in this category. They will stay there as the winners of last weekend's A Class competition since all scores have been collected and processed.

The lineup consists of Anders Dahl and Gunnar B. Berg who train for this year's intermediate class competition at Norway's Nationals 2009. Arcteryx member Derek Broughton is the player coach for the team. He has won the intermediate class at the Norwegian Nationals several times, and he is planning to win it again this year. Nexus member Marianne Nordlund completes the lineup. She is also Derek Broughton's wife soon to be.

Bootie Knights is guided by another Nexus member, Yngve Haugoms. His girl friend Ingvild Staarvik is in the lineup, together with Lise Vikan. EX3M4s and Frost member Kjetil Nordin filled the open slot just for the weekend.

Celebrity in Norway: Kari Traa
Kari Traa was a local pickup team from Voss. Members of the team were Even Rokne, who was a member of the Norwegian national 8-way team in the early 90s and Kari Traa. She is a gold medalist of the Olympic Winter Games in Freestyle Skiing. Norway's Formation Skydiving manager Trude Sviggum explained that Kari Traa is very famous in Norway. Erik Hegbom and Stian Overaa completed the lineup.

Low Pull was another pickup team with a lineup that was recruited during the basic skills camp. Members were Tore Granmo, former EX3M4s and current Frost member, Anja Dahl, Morten Kvalsnes and Lars Vomli.

The 3rd meet of Norway's 2009 Cup series is scheduled for the July 25 weekend, right before the week of the Norwegian Nationals 2009 begins.
