Did You Know...

... that Natasha Montgomery and Sven Ibens have something in common?

DeLand Fire at the World Meet 2006 in Germany
posted Dec 17th, 2014 - Today's Sun Path Products NSL News update includes a different leaderboard compared to the usual ones. The Christmas holidays are approaching, and it is the right time to thank the supporters of the National Skydiving League and SKYLEAGUE.COM project.

It is not only the support of the sponsors and the advertisers who keep the National Skydiving League and SKYLEAGUE.COM alive. Many of the leagues, teams and competitors are also helping by contributing small shares of registration fees and other revenues for the operational costs at the NSL headquarters in DeLand.

Then there are also the NSL fans who do even more than that. They feel like helping the NSL operation with additional donations here and there, which are greatly appreciated and much needed. The list of the donors with more details alone can still not say enough and give the supporters the credit they deserve.

Thank You

Hayabusa at the World Meet 2006 in Germany
The first female 4-way world champion in the Open Class, Natasha Montgomery, is still on top of the leaderboard. She sponsored DeLand Fire (Shannon Pilcher, Ian Bobo, Gary Smith, with Jonathan Tagle on camera) to win the World Championship of Formation Skydiving in Germany 2006. Her fairy tale story made it quickly to the NSL Profiles.

The Sun Path Products NSL News is naturally interested in such stories and covered her whole career story and DeLand Fire's road from the very start to the award ceremony in Gera 2006.

Natasha Montgomery decided one day by herself that she wanted to give back to the sport and to the environment that she enjoyed for several years. She contacted the NSL for an unsolicited meeting and surprised with the first check in a series of regular donations. Natasha Montgomery retired from skydiving after a few more years.

Sven Ibens and Paul Hofstee with Thunder ISR
The donor in 2nd place is still a very active competitor. In fact, Sven Ibens has been very active in all kind of ways and areas of Formation Skydiving competition. He is one of the original NMP-PCH Hayabusa members and missed the title of a 4-way world champion only because he decided to give his family life more attention when the other three Hayabusa members joined the Belgian Army in 2006 to become full time competitors.

Sven Ibens watched Natasha Montgomery receive her 4-way gold medal in 2006 and then took a break from active and intensive 4-way competition, while he continued to be engaged in the sport as an IPC delegate for Belgium. He became a member of IPC's Formation Skydiving Committee and could contribute much with his vast experiences as a competitor.

He had a serious comeback as a recreational 4-way competitor when Thunder ISR was formed in 2010. Thunder is now a world class team and has been the best unofficial amateur team in the world for a while. His wife Annelies Hasewinkel-Ibens is member of the Dutch national 8-way team M8trix. Last not least, his Thunder team mate Paul Hofstee is in 5th place of the special leaderboard... Thank you for each donation, and Happy Holidays.
