Did You Know...

... that XOteam from Russia won 1,000 Euro at the Polish Indoor Open 2014?

XOteam's front piece: Tatiana Polyanskaya and Sergy Polyansky
posted Jan 8th, 2015 - XOteam from Russia was the winner of the Polish Indoor Open 2014 and took home the 1,000 EURO cash for the 1st place after a new team record average of 20.5 after ten rounds.

The 2014 season was the third year for the same lineup. XOteam had competed with Sergy Polyansky, Alexandr Budakov, Sergey Romaniv and Tatiana Polyanskaya at the Russian Nationals 2012 (12.7) and 2013 (16.7 after only three rounds) before placing 5th last year with a 15.3 average.

The Polish Indoor Open 2014 was the last competition for this lineup. Tail Alexander Budakov is leaving the team, and former SportLoto and Flystation member Yuri Drozdov will take his slot. Center Outside Sergey Polyansky said that his team decided to attend the last meet with the old lineup: "We visited in the summer and love the tunnel itself and the friendly, professional team working here." He flies with his wife Tatyana in the front piece.

Videos: XOTeam from Russia - Magic 4 from Lithuania
Magic 4 at the Polish Indoor Open 2014
Magic 4, Lithuania's national 4-way team, was the only AAA Class team that was able to score anywhere close to the Russian winner. Magic 4 even outscored XOteam in two of the ten rounds.

The Lithuanian military team had focused this year's training on outdoor flying to get ready for the world meet in the Czech Republic in August. Irish observer and competitor Gordon Hodgkinson, who worked at the Flyspot last year, said that Magic 4 used the days before the Flyspot Open Championship to re-adjust to indoor flying and techniques. It was also the first indoor competition for Magic 4's point flyer Piotras Bukinas.

Team member Dalius Gaika (Outside Center) told Gordon Hodgkinson that the indoor meet was a big challenge: "This year was mostly outdoor training ahead of the world meet. We’re a bit ‘glitchy’ indoors and have been working on flying slower and smoother. This meet was very nice, everything's cool - I like it, and I hope Flyspot will make more meets like this." Magic 4 will compete for Lithuania at the CISM military championships in 2015 and plan to attend a few indoor meets before then.

Sky4Four in action
Sky4Four in 3rd place was the highest placed Polish team and won the first national indoor championships. Team member Anna Baranska was pregnant, and Flyspot instructor Gordon Hodgkinson was filling her slot for the second half of last year.

He said that he enjoyed helping the team to continue their training and progression whilst Anna Baranska was unavailable: "I was delighted to see all the visiting teams – the atmosphere was great."

The Flyspot Open Championship/Polish Indoor Nationals was Sky4Four’s first indoor competition. Center Outside Arek Szczebiot said that the meet was a great learning opportunity for the team in "how to handle the stress and buzz, and get the most out of our skills". Sky4Four were happy with the final results while looking for more: "We still believe we can get better – and that’s very motivating for the future. We can’t wait for the next competition."
