Did You Know...

... that Evolution posted a new national highscore for Sweden last weekend?

posted Jul 6th, 2009 - The NSL News reported on 25 June 2009 how Sweden and Finland both had bad luck with the weather on their first meet weekend this year. The teams from the Scandinavian countries coincided to have their second meet of the 2009 season once again on the same weekend, and the weather was good enough to allow a completed competition in Sweden and four/five rounds in Finland.

Lennart Vestbom, representative for the Swedish Parachuting Association, told the NSL News that the Swedish national team of 2008, Evolution, was already selected as the new national team of 2009 after the first 2009 meet:

"This season, Evolution seems to be without competition in Sweden, and the team was selected to represent Sweden at the European Championships and World Cup in Prostejov, Czech Republic after the award ceremony."

Evolution meditation at Bodyflight Bedford
Evolution appreciated the early nomination and followed up with a record performance last weekend. The 18.8 average after six rounds was far above any previous results that this lineup (Emil Einarsson, Mikael Kaulanen, Rickard Rodensjo, Felix Wallberg, Niklas Rodensjo on camera) has posted ever since the team was founded at the beginning of the 2008 season.

Evolution attended three meets in Sweden last year (13.2 - 13.3 - 16.1) and finished the 2008 season with a 15.0 average after eight rounds at the World Meet 2008 in France, Maubeuge. The Swedish national team did not make it into the semifinals and ended up in 15th place.

The 18.8 average last weekend promises a different situation at the next international meets, which will begin with the FAI World Cup 2009 this year. Swedish Chief Judge at last weekend's competition, Zeljko Tanaskovic, added that Evolution also set a new Swedish record for a single round with the 29-pointer in Round 6.

Evolution at the World Challenge 2009
A fast competition draw with another fast sequence in Round 3 (L,D,9,B) surely supported Evolution's 18.8 record performance. However, the Swedish team took only full advantage of the opportunity for a confidence booster and posted scores that coach Joey Jones had already expected to come this year.

In fact, Evolution's outdoor scores are not even that far away from the team's indoor scores at this year's World Challenge 2009. Both events had a sequence of only random formations. Evolution posted a score of 32 points for Round 4 in Bedford (A,C,E,H,K) and now a 29-pointer for Round 6 (K,M,Q,E,O) last weekend.

AAA Class team Top Gun
The two other Swedish AAA Class teams, Top Gun and Team Jumpers, used the scoring opportunity, as well. Top Gun scored an 8-pointer for the only round in June. Last weekend, the lowest scores of all six rounds were 10-pointers in Rounds 4 and 5.

Team Jumpers had signed up for the A Class competition in June and already moved up into the AAA Class at the next meet. The 8.8 average is a great start into the whole IPC dive pool. It was a fast competition draw, but it still included slot switchers and extra memory.

The next meet in Sweden is the official national championship in July. Evolution will have no problem to win this year, and the team is probably already totally focused on the performance at the World Cup 2009 in the Czech Republic.
