Did You Know...

... that the World Games will be more interesting this year?

posted Jul 13th, 2009 - Two events are taking place this week. The last posted competition draw is the one for Denmark's national championship 2009, and the event began today. Friday is the first day of the World Games 2009.

The NSL News mentioned earlier that Arizona Airspeed will travel to the World Games that take place every four years. This year's event is in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The last World Games were held in 2005, and Germany was the host.

The World Games traditionally invites the best six 4-way teams of the last World Championship of Formation Skydiving to compete. According to the final rankings of the 4-way event in France 2008, the national teams from the USA, France, Belgium, Russia, Norway and Canada are expected to attend the World Games 2009.

This year's event is probably more interesting compared to the last one in Germany 2005. The world champion of 2004, DeLand Majik, had already decided to discontinue after winning the gold medals in Croatia, and France did not send a team to the World Games 2005.

The situation is different this year. The three medal winners of the World Meet 2008 in France, Arizona Airspeed, France Maubeuge and Hayabusa Defence, have continued with the same lineups and are planning to win the World Meet 2010 in Russia. The World Games 2009 this week brings the same teams back together at an outdoor competition and will show if anything has changed in the meantime.

The same three teams competed already at the World Challenge 2009 with the same lineups. Airspeed won, and Hayabusa outscored the French national team at its first indoor competition.

Canada Evolution
Norway is also competing with the same Arcteryx lineup that took the 5th place at the World Meet 2008. However, Norway has a new official national 4-way team, and Arcteryx only attends the World Games this year. Canada's LeMay family team Evolution, 6th place in Maubeuge last year, is also expected to compete in Taiwan this year and may also come back for the 2010 season.

Only Russia will not have the original lineup of the World Meet 2008. The Sky Panthers have a year off, and Skylight Barkli is on for the 2009 season. The NSL News had no information who will represent Russia at the World Games this week.

The three medal winners of 2008 alone will make the event exciting enough, and the NSL News will provide as much information as possible. Airspeed is already in Taiwan to get familiar with the event site. Hayabusa Defence begins the long travel today.
