Gerhard Schut, manager of the Dutch Skydiving League and NRG's Center Outside, now provided the NSL News with additional information of a competition that braved difficult weather conditions and turned out with record scores.
Unfortunately, one team had to activate an alternate before the start of the meet, as the Outside Center of team Whooops, Maurits Idema, crashed with his motor bike on the way to the Nationals.
He is now recovering from a broken shoulder blade, and the Dutch teams and competitors wish him a speedy recovery. Dutch 4-way veteran Bert Hajee and former Whooops member Judith Muit filled his slot for the Dutch Nationals 2009.
Saturday morning started with overcast skies, which did not change, and not a single jump was made that day. Gerhard Schut said that the buffet and party on Saturday evening did, however, manage to lift the Dutch spirits.
Monday started off with dense fog that turned into low clouds until the skies broke up around 11:00 AM. The Dutch teams were back in action. The weather remained good until the last competition jump was made around 6:00 PM. Then clouds came back as did the rain.
The last jump of team Turbulence was very exciting to watch, as a 15-pointer would bring a jumpoff with Whooops for the bronze medals. Eventually, Turbulence just came a few centimeters short of the 15th point on the freeze frame. The live judging in the main hangar was once again provided by Jukka Olkkonen's scoring system from Finland.
The awards ceremony also included the awards for the teams who won the Dutch League series, which includes the Tomscat Trophy in June, the Dutch League meet in July and the national championships. Serge's Angels won the AA Class award, Creeps was the winner in the A Class and Air Elementals in the Rookie Class. In addition, the Dutch coaches selected Team Meo as the most promising team of the 2009 season.
