Did You Know...

... that Dynamic Fource and Ignition posted new Dutch record averages?

Original Whooops lineup
posted Aug 13th, 2009 - The NSL News had already followed the activities at the Dutch Nationals 2009 throughout the whole meet weekend, while reporting of the national championships in Germany, Russia and the United Kingom at the same time.

Gerhard Schut, manager of the Dutch Skydiving League and NRG's Center Outside, now provided the NSL News with additional information of a competition that braved difficult weather conditions and turned out with record scores.

Rookie Class awards
On Thursday evening, the day before the official start of the Dutch Nationals 2009, 15 teams gathered at the Paracentrum Teuge to compete at this year's national championships.

Unfortunately, one team had to activate an alternate before the start of the meet, as the Outside Center of team Whooops, Maurits Idema, crashed with his motor bike on the way to the Nationals.

He is now recovering from a broken shoulder blade, and the Dutch teams and competitors wish him a speedy recovery. Dutch 4-way veteran Bert Hajee and former Whooops member Judith Muit filled his slot for the Dutch Nationals 2009.

A Class awards
The Dutch teams were greeted by the sun Friday morning. The two Cessna Caravans flying continuously allowed the meet management to get half way through the meet before bad weather came in. The weather cleared after an hour, however, a new problem occured. The Air Traffic Control in Schiphol issued a height restriction, which effectively grounded all teams for the remainder of the day.

Saturday morning started with overcast skies, which did not change, and not a single jump was made that day. Gerhard Schut said that the buffet and party on Saturday evening did, however, manage to lift the Dutch spirits.

AA Class awards
Sunday started not much better than Saturday. The meet director then already announced that the competition would have to be continued on Monday to get it completed. A few loads were sent between the weather holds, but late in the afternoon two planes had to come down with the teams on board, due to rain on the ground.

Monday started off with dense fog that turned into low clouds until the skies broke up around 11:00 AM. The Dutch teams were back in action. The weather remained good until the last competition jump was made around 6:00 PM. Then clouds came back as did the rain.

The last jump of team Turbulence was very exciting to watch, as a 15-pointer would bring a jumpoff with Whooops for the bronze medals. Eventually, Turbulence just came a few centimeters short of the 15th point on the freeze frame. The live judging in the main hangar was once again provided by Jukka Olkkonen's scoring system from Finland.

AAA Class awards
The awards ceremony celebrated the winners of the Dutch Nationals 2009 in all four competition classes. The reigning champions of the Dutch national team Dynamic Fource posted the highest average (18.8) of a AAA Class team in the Dutch Formation Skydiving history. Ignition copied this record in the AA Class with an 11.5 average after ten rounds.

The awards ceremony also included the awards for the teams who won the Dutch League series, which includes the Tomscat Trophy in June, the Dutch League meet in July and the national championships. Serge's Angels won the AA Class award, Creeps was the winner in the A Class and Air Elementals in the Rookie Class. In addition, the Dutch coaches selected Team Meo as the most promising team of the 2009 season.
