Did You Know...

... that Florida teams begin to show results of their training?

Showing results: DeLand Flashpoint
posted May 9th, 2015 - The Indoor Cloud League events of the Florida Skydiving League at iFLY Orlando began in 2012 and was originally a recruiting project for 4-way teams and competitors. The monthly indoor competition with the Northwest Skydiving League eventually started the Indoor Cloud League.

The nature of the ICL activities has not changed in Florida, as the events have continued to generate new 4-way teams and competitors over the years. Several teams in Florida were formed when participants of the ICL events decided to meet regularly for 4-way training and competition.

Some of those teams eventually spin off and follow their own training schedule, while new participants join the ICL events and learn the basics of 4-way competition. The regular player coaches in Florida (Gilles Dutrisac, Hal Spence, Kurt Gaebel) help the new flyers to score their first ICL points, while other lineups with earlier participants stay together and form their own teams.

The lineups with the player coaches usually contribute most of the scoring points for Florida's ICL group at iFLY Orlando. However, newly formed teams have recently begun to show the results of their own training efforts at the ICL events.

DeLand Flashpoint performed five of the six new ICL sequences for May last Thursday at iFLY Orlando and gave the AAA Class lineup with the player coaches a good race for the top scores in the three categories that both lineups performed. The player coaches eventually ended up only three points ahead and with one highscore for the AAA Class sequence.

Team ZEUS from Skydive City was the other team who showed the results of their own training efforts with coach Bob Byrne. ZEUS just completed a 3-hour indoor training camp at Paraclete and was responsible for the 28-pointer in the RRR Class.

Team ZEUS with coach Bob Byrne
ZEUS had recruited Mark Messersmith from the ICL events at iFLY Orlando and began training with the new member this year. Coach Bob Byrne was watching ZEUS perform the ICL sequences while he competed with the AAA/AA Class lineup for iFLY Orlando.

Hal Spence and Kurt Gaebel had two of the new participants in their lineup. Michael Rendon and Siddarth Choudhury worked their way up the same night from 1-on-1 training to the two Rookie Class sequences for the beginners in the sport (R - RR). The best scores of their R and RR Class performances contributed to the iFLY Orlando total for May.

Only one of the five lineups (Sebastian Jimenez, Michael Patterson, Leslie Eggenberger, Adam Money) did not get any of their scores posted on the ICL leaderboard despite a great competition with ZEUS. The extra team training of the ZEUS members showed results and won this internal competition. The May meet of the Florida Skydiving League is coming up next weekend.
